Tattoo Cover Makeup?

Published

I have a visible tattoo around my wrist that I will need to cover up during clinicals. I've done a google search and there are a lot of tattoo cover brands available, but I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations for one that would hold up well during clinicals.

I haven't tried them, but how bout a watch over it or a thermal under your uniform for sleeves? I have a tattoo wedding ring and they couldn't say dice about it. Haha made me feel good about breaking their nazi rules. I think nursing schools just need to get over it.

I've thought about a watch, but it would need to be a very wide one. I've also thought about wearing one of thosesoft wrist support things but I'm not sure on their policy with that. A long-sleeved undershirt is also on my list of things to look in to.

I just tried covering it up with maybelline stick concealor, and if you squint and look from an angle it covers well ;)

I wouldn't risk using make-up... If you are wearing all white !!!! I tend to get my make up every where.... I would suggest wearing a thick banded watch or long sleeves underneath. Hope this helps ! I knew I wanted to be a nurse or doctor since 5th grade... so when I got my tat at 16, I knew to get it where it would not be visible :) but when you start work, no one will care about it ! Its just nursing school wants us to all look like plain jane.

During my clinicals we had to cover our tattoos up with bandages. For 8 weeks I looked like I had attempted suicide d/t the bandages I had on both of my wrists. Another girl had a large tattoo on the back of her neck and had to walk around with this huge abdominal dressing taped to her neck. The bandage route is the easiest way to do it. Good luck!

Our school told us that we weren't allowed to wear longsleves under our uniform the longest can only be 3/4 length. This was because it would interfer with hand washing and body fluid contamination. Wouldn't a stretchy wrist band thingy (sorry don't know what else to call it-baby kept me up all night:yawn:) pose the same problems?

Dermablend products: I haven't used them myself, but I have heard about them, and they are supposed to be able to cover anything and everything.

What I have used is Maybelline Waterproof Concealer--not for tattoos, but for a scar...and it does a good job, especially if you set it with a little powder.

And if all else fails, go with the long sleeves with a bandage underneath to be safe :)

I recommend dermablend here is a video from youtube.

Great question... I was just logging on to ask the same thing ! I'm hoping the watch and lab coat combo will do the trick for me!

Oh, I know. I've seen plenty of nurses with visible tats in a variety of settings. I thought about the bandage thing too- that would actually be my preference, but I guess I should check and see how the school wants me to cover up.

I would say the best way to go would be a long sleeve shirt under your scubs that you could push the sleeves up to wash your hands and wrists etc. If you put makeup there you are just going to wash it off, and a bandage will get wet every time you wash, and a new one will have to be reapplied which is a lot of work everytime you enter or leave a room. Remember you are supposed to wash your hands up past your wrists.

How about a thick bracelet of some sort.
