I have a visible tattoo around my wrist that I will need to cover up during clinicals. I've done a google search and there are a lot of tattoo cover brands available, but I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations for one that would hold up well during clinicals.
I haven't tried them, but how bout a watch over it or a thermal under your uniform for sleeves? I have a tattoo wedding ring and they couldn't say dice about it. Haha made me feel good about breaking their nazi rules. I think nursing schools just need to get over it.
As an instructor, I can say that it is not usually the school that needs to "get over it," but the clinical site. I could not care care less what tattoos, piercings, etc that my students have with the exception of anything that would possibly hurt them (ex- no big hoop rings that would be likely to be pulled out). However, I don't make the rules, the clinical sites do. If a clinical site won't accept a student, then that student can't come. If them can't come to complete their hours, they can't pass. Perhaps clinical sites will eventually realize how many people have piercings/tattoos and become used to it. Until that time, we have to follow their rules if we want to continue to place students at that facility.
I know this is an old post but what about the bare minerals brand makeup? I know it can be expensive for us students on a budget but it works well on my skin and I have seen it used to cover tattoos. I got my current stuff as a gift but seeing as a little goes a long way this stuff is almost worth the price for the face makeup starter kit. It came with 2 different skin tone shades, a warmth tone, and a mineral veil to set the look as well as 3 application brushes. I think you can get it at some department stores and I have seen it sold on tv as well. Good luck and let us know what you did or what worked to hide your tattoo.
I use this on my face sometimes (not too big a fan of the color selection for my skintone) and don't think it would be enough to cover my tattoo.
The update though is that it hasn't been a problem- I had one clinical instructor make a comment about how I must not have been thinking about nursing school when I got it, but other than that it hasn't been an issue. Which is good because now that it's summer long sleeved undershirts would be too hot!
