I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
Regarding the CPR course....the one listed in our acceptance packet is offered specifically by the TNSA. Which is probably why it's more expensive. Remember, you can get certified by any organization that offers an American Heart Association certified course.
So frustrating. A lot of this confusion can be avoided by a few strategic sentences here and there......surely they'd think about this as they are probably being bombarded with emails and voicemails!
The first page of the acceptance information packet states all of our courses will be assigned for the first semester, then says, "once your file is complete, you will self-register." So when do we find out what our schedule will be? Why do they not list the registration dates on the checklist? How are we supposed to plan our personal and professional lives without this info? So many questions, and I fear we'll have to wait until orientation to find out some of these answers.
Also, the new student orientation page says a map and parking permit are enclosed. I don't have either of those in my acceptance information packet.
after we turn in our stuff we self register, but the classes are chosen for us, they give us our schedules, but i think we can only register for the classes we are placed in. I remember reading on the Fall 2011 thread that they had some sort of number they used to register with..
Im not sure when we find out our schedules, im hoping at orientation, but i will ask them tomorrow when they give me a call back or when i call them and ill try to find out as much information as i can so we're not all SO confused.
Registration for spring 2012 is november 15th, but we don't have to worry about registering at that time since the classes are locked until they allow us to register anyway. I didnt have the parking permit or map either, but when i went to the campus today; they actually let me park in the garage..
@cross- i think the Elsevier package is something we buy at the book store, and for the skills book, i just used to title of the book and did a search. I know it came with certain books, but not the Foundations books..
All this is SOOOO craazzyy!!
Thanks, husker. The register/self-register thing makes a little more sense now. You're probably right.....when we login on the night we register, the only option available will probably the one we are given (hopefully at orientation). I'm thinking that at orientation they will allow us to swap with another student. That way, we are all there at the same time and they can make everyone happy on the same day.
Off to do my background check!
Now there has been a lot of info gathered these last few days but I think somewhere a few pages ago someone said we should know our schedules by Nov 15th - I sure hope that's the case!
I've got a million things to do tomorrow at TR but hopefully after I get them all taken care of I can talk to someone (maybe a nursing advisor?) and get on the right path. Probably won't be until after 3pm but if I can get some useful info I'll be certain to share. :-)
I am caught up finally on all the posts.
1) I would like a 7-1 JPS schedule and I also live 820/35 area, so I am afraid they will send me to NHH. I work at a hospital in South FW so driving all over the DFDub is not my idea of fun. I do know that for the first 6 weeks of clinicals we are at school and not our hospital.
2) Bc I work in a hospital, I know it can get cold, so I am getting a lab jacket and magnetic name tags because I am guaranteed to lose the back to the pin.
3) I thought they said we can't register until our checklist is done, and we can't get our drug screen done till January, so I assume that we will have our schedule before then, but we register after we pass drug test and all else is done... again assumption.
4) I work with a nurse who recently graduated from TCC's program. he told me to get him my book list and he will tell me what we don't need that they say to buy. He also said he did buy the previous edition textbooks and it worked for him, just page numbers didn't match.
Dreamer - I have a question about Littmann Stethoscope. What kind of Littmann do you get? and how good is it? I am planning to purchase Littmann Cardiology III Stethoscope: Black 3128. Do you think it is a good one? I just one to get the good one that last and easy to use during clinical.Thank you,
I got the Littmann Classic II SE and I love it! As far as I know, the Cardiology steth is more specialized towards that field and makes it a bit easier to hear the specifics of the heartbeat. It's also a bit more expensive as well. Most of my fellow classmates have either the Classic II SE or the Lightweight.
#6) can yall get your TCCD email on your iphone like you can other mail (not going to the browser, but where it is like gmail or whatever you use and you can program it) I've tried to look it up, but I didn't see an easy way.
I was able to set my campus cruiser up as an app so as soon as I click it, it takes me to the login screen, but I would love to get it with my normal work and home accounts. If you find out...please share. So far I got my steth, 3 patches, watch, ordered my name tags (one magnetic and one pin) and did my background check. I thought I was making good progress but now there is SOOO much to do.I am having trouble finding some of the books as well. I searched for the ISBN for the Foundations book in Amazaon but the one I found did not have the mynursinglab component. If anyone finds this online with the component please let me know. I have to set up my x-mas wishlist...LOL ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS NURSING SCHOOL BOOKS!!!!
Okay well I just went to that medisave website and I am going to get the Littmann Classic II SE in Rainbow - its super cute and the same color scheme as our scrubs.
If I can find time (or if someone from fall wants to come back and share LOL) I want to find where I saw that the books come in a set. I'd rather get them all at once if I can . . .

Exactly Jefe!! Which is it - do they do it for us or do we do it?? I didn't have a parking permit or map either, but thankfully I'm down there every other day so I know my way around.
I'm looking for the books too, and I KNOW I saw on the fall boards that they were able to buy everything in one package at one price, but I don't see that anywhere. Also there is no code for the Elsevier Package or even the skills book.
