I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
Just an update per the financial aid department at Trinity River:
If, like me, you're dependent on FA to pay for the cost of your schooling, you will have to pay for all of the fees out of pocket and wait for your FA to hit on January 7th. When we register for classes, if your financial aid is already approved and waiting, your classes will be held and paid on January 7th; any remaining funds will be issued to you in 3-4 business days.
So basically everything on these forms that must be paid for now, about $200 I think, will be out of pocket for the next two months. Plus scrubs etc if you don't want to wait until the last week to purchase them. As far as the books, I haven't even gotten that far in the packet but if you get a book gift card you also won't get that until the 7th so that is only 10 days to get your books if you order them from the TR bookstore.
Where there is a will there is a way I guess, but that really sucks right here at Christmas. I don't mind waiting to purchase the scrubs, shoes, lab coat and stuff until the last minute but I really wanted to get my books so I could see what we're getting in to . . . ;-)
ive looked in to the books :twocents:..but i can't wait to get them! Im probably going to order them around the end of november. im so glad we only decided to buy christmas gifts for the kids in the family this year, which there are about 8 including mine.
Anyone see the 50$ for CPR? at the NW campus where i was going to take mine, they only charge $15 for the same CPR class! whats the difference??! I called the nursing department and left a message so ill let you guys know what they say.

I saw the $50 for CPR but know any better to check. Did I read right that we need our nursing pack at orientation, or will they just be selling them there? I've seen them in the TR bookstore before but I wonder if this is a different one?

they are going to be passing them out at orientation, we pay for them at the business office.
also, is anyone thinking about using e-books?
i know im posting a lot on a here, sort of annoying..
what do you guys think about getting the "previous" addition books? Like on the nursing drug guide book it says "2012 recommended" but i think i might get the 2011 version to save me 30 bucks. Cant be much of a difference between the two right?
Okay now I have another question re: CPR cert --
If we get certified at TCC during the dates on the form January 10-13, does that mean we cannot register until after that is completed?? It says a copy of your CPR card must be submitted to the nursing department before you are registered for classes, but how can they do that if they don't offer certification courses until January??
So confused, and concerned, and stressed!

I was actually wondering about that also, thats why i was going to ask them if we can get it done at another campus, TCC NW has some classes coming up in the next few weeks..hopefully they call me back tomorrow, if so, ill let you guys know.
But i remember reading on the fall 2011 thread that they got a petition anyway to let them register since it was so close to class..but im not sure. I would think they would let you register regardless..
I feel ya on the confusion and stress, just looking for the books is driving me bonkers!
Cross: I second that! WTH? They really need to have separate info listed for us first-timers.
The first page of the acceptance information packet states all of our courses will be assigned for the first semester, then says, "once your file is complete, you will self-register." So when do we find out what our schedule will be? Why do they not list the registration dates on the checklist? How are we supposed to plan our personal and professional lives without this info? So many questions, and I fear we'll have to wait until orientation to find out some of these answers.
Also, the new student orientation page says a map and parking permit are enclosed. I don't have either of those in my acceptance information packet.

Ouch is what my wallet says. I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I can start pulling from my financial aid for this. She said she thought I could but to verify with them. Otherwise I am going to have to figure out a way to come up with several hundred dollars quick . . .
