Hello,
I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.
I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.
I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.
My science GPA is a 3.5... I don't think they care about the overall GPA, I could be wrong there though.
I'm almost certain that all they look at now is your Science GPA and your HESI scores. With that being said, I would recommend retaking a class this summer if you can in order to improve your GPA. I'm not sure that a 3.5 will hold you back if you have good HESI scores, but with the new application process, I'm sure there will be more applicants applying since you can apply now with only your Sciences completed. In my opinion, it would seem that the applicant pool is only going to get more competitive from this point forward.
First off nursing school is difficult but doable. Your first semester is the hardest. You are learning care plans, skills, critical style thinking questions. There are papers to write, chapters to read and yes there is lots of reading. For those accepted read the chapters while you have the time now. Once you get into school time there never seems to be enough of it. I am a mother of 3 kids all of whom played baseball in the spring and fall, I worked after my second semester as a nurse tech between 12-24 hours a week. It was rough at time but the professors are there to support you and help you. I have never heard of a professor making comments like what was mentioned above. The program is great at doing all that they can do to help you succeed. But in return you have to personally put 100% into it to get 100% out. Make friends, have support systems, study groups, as the professors question.
Congrats to all the new nursing students of Fall 2011 you make it this far dont give up now. Enjoy the ride it may be bumpy at times but when it is all over you will be sad. I graduated in may and took my NCLEX today and passed with 75 questions and will be starting a new RN job at JPS in July. It is bitter sweet that it is over.

Congratulations and thank you for calming our nerves. I truly believe that if we do our part, we will succeed. Have fun at your new job. Your feedback is very much appreciated.
For anyone that was interested in purchasing the packaged deal provided by Elsevier, I was informed by the TR bookstore today that the package will not be available until the end of July. Apparently the publisher contacted the school to notify them that a component had inadvertently been left out, so they are having to be repackaged. There is an additional 10% off coupon stapled in the middle of the Elsevier packet as well that will save you a total of 20% off the price of the package, however the bookstore can't give a final total without the coupon in hand. I will be heading down to the bookstore this week to go ahead and preorder my package and will be sure to let y'all know how much it will be.
