SURVEY: What degree did you get for nursing and other questions

hello yall! i wanna take a survey asking every nurse out here these questions. im sorry if a similar thread like this has been made
1. what degree did you get? eg: aa, bsn.. have you had other degrees in different fields? i'm an lvn with no degree. i have a diploma in vocational nursing.
2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) i pursued this career for the advancement opportunities, flexibility, and income.
3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? i was about 19 when i first heard of the lvn pathway.
4. where do you currently work (i dont need a specific address or something like that)? a private doctor clinic? hospitals? schools? i work at a nursing home.
5. what is your salary? i earn $23 hourly.
6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? the customer service demands, abusive family members, snippy doctors, rude patients, and unrealistic managers all challenge me. my biggest challenges revolve around short-staffing, lack of supplies, and too many things to accomplish in 1 shift.
7. what do you find the most rewarding? i am rewarded when a patient or family members compliments me on the care i've provided. even a "thank you" goes a long way.
8. do you have a family? if so, how often do you spend time with them? i'm single with no children.
9. would you say you get days off more or work more? for 2 years, i worked the weekend double shift, where i got 5 days off in a row every week. i worked two 16 hour shifts on saturday and sunday, and was paid for a 40 hour week. i now work 4 to 5 night shifts per week (8 hour shifts), so i don't get as many days off anymore.
10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it? i would first try to change some things about nursing before choosing a different career. all careers have their positive and negative aspects.

wrote a paper in 5th grade about being a nurse

Hospital ER
5. What is your salary?
$40/hour (that's after 27 years)
6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far?
too many patients, especially vented ICU patients I can't get moved out of the ER, so no rooms left for the ER patients stuck in the waiting room.
7. What do you find the most rewarding?
When CPR works, a succesful outcome to a bad trauma
8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them?
widow, 3 kids, 4-5 days a week
9. Would you say you get days off more or work more?
I work parttime on purpose, 2 12s a week
10. If you could choose a different career, would you do it?

2. Why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) woke up one morning and said "I'm going to be a nurse" (for real!)

3. When(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? a month before I turned 20

4. Where do you currently work (I dont need a specific address or something like that)? A private doctor clinic? Hospitals? Schools? hospital

5. What is your salary?$22/hr +shift differential, charge nurse pay, overtime, etc

6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? high ratios, not being able to provide as good of care as I want to, my first code last weekend:down:

7. What do you find the most rewarding? seeing smiles on my patient's and their familes faces, and knowing I help put them there

8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them? no kids, a fiance...I see him only on the days I don't work (I work 12s)

9. Would you say you get days off more or work more? I work 3-12s a week, have 4 nights off...unless I pick up OT

10. If you could choose a different career, would you do it? Definitely not. Even when I hate my job, I remember the pay, the fact that I make my own schedule for the most part, and it is very flexible. Overtime is available if I need money, but not mandatory. I couldn't imagine being stuck in a 9-5 M-F job (my original plan!)

5. What is your salary? $33.00/hr

6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? Death of a child

7. What do you find the most rewarding? Calming the fears of patients through education and compassion

8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them? A husband, 2 grown children, 2 grandchildren and both of my parents. I spend alot of time with them.

9. Would you say you get days off more or work more? 4 off per week

10. If you could choose a different career, would you do it? Knowing what I know now, yes, a Dermatoligist

My own interest.

As a teenager, got talked out of it. Finally did it late 30's.
4. Where do you currently work (I dont need a specific address or something like that)? A private doctor clinic? Hospitals? Schools?
Hospital, Surgical ICU.
5. What is your salary?
$27 hr plus diffs.

6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far?
Hospital politics.
7. What do you find the most rewarding?
Seeing a pt that you thought would end up dead, walk out with a functioning brain. Gives me thrills every time.
8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them?
Husband and 4 kids. Spend most weekends and one or two days during the week. I work 3 x 12hr shifts.
9. Would you say you get days off more or work more?
Sometimes feels like work, but it runs about even to more time off.
10. If you could choose a different career, would you do it?

2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) i have always loved health issues since i was in school. decided to become a nurse after i had my first baby.
3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? i was 21 years.
4. where do you currently work (i dont need a specific address or something like that)? a private doctor clinic? hospitals? schools? i work in ltc as a mds nurse. but i started as stna, then lpn, and now rn.
5. what is your salary? $50k per year.
6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? too much to do, too little time.
7. what do you find the most rewarding? knowing that i have helped someone in a bad time in their life and made it easier, more bearable for them.
8. do you have a family? if so, how often do you spend time with them? i work mon-fri. i am off every holiday, weekend, ect. i also have flex time so i make my own hours to suit my family life. i have 3 kids and a hubby.
9. would you say you get days off more or work more? work more. i am in the officce.
10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it? don't think i would choose another.

2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) interest
3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? 16yrs old
4. where do you currently work (i dont need a specific address or something like that)? a private doctor clinic? hospitals? schools? hospital
5. what is your salary? $21.50 an hour (for rural iowa, that's good!)
6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? getting a long with a very unpleasant co-worker.
7. what do you find the most rewarding? de-escalating situations and calming pt's down. i really like to see the pt. improve.
8. do you have a family? yes, hubby & 3 young daughters. if so, how often do you spend time with them? i work 2-3 12's a week, nights/no week-ends so i can spend a lot of time with them.
9. would you say you get days off more or work more? i get asked to be on call or to actually come in on most of my days off. i've only agreed to come in maybe once or twice.
10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it?

maybe, if i lived in hollywood. i would love to work on movie sets.

3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? when i was very young 9-10. i would stay w/ my aunt in the summers who was a nurse and i looked up to her. it took me awhile to achieve it but i finally did it!

5. what is your salary? $19.33 for days, $20.13 for nocs

6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? it has definatly been a challenge for me switching to the ed after 1 yr experience on surgical. adjusting to not spending a lot of time with my patients, it's a different focus in the ed. it is a whole new world but i love it and look forward to learning so much more!

7. what do you find the most rewarding? i love to have those moments w/ the patients where you get to visit and really find out who they are. i love to see their faces light up when they talk about their families and their life. it always feels good to see them get well and to be complimented on being a good nurse.

8. do you have a family? if so, how often do you spend time with them? 3 girls 10-7-6 i probably get more time w/ my kids than most parents who work typical hours.

9. would you say you get days off more or work more? depends, i work 2-4 days a week and usally get btwn 2-5 days off in a row. i will work more if short staffed so far that has not been too often.

10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it? absolutley not

2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc)personal experience while being a patient many years ago. i was uneducated on what a nurse really does.
3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse?see above question, i believe i was ... 28ish?

5. what is your salary?mid range of average.
6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far?learning what i want out of my career
7. what do you find the most rewarding?the genuine thank you from your patient that heals, or the family.

3. When(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? 24
4. Where do you currently work (I dont need a specific address or something like that)? A private doctor clinic? Hospitals? Schools? Inpatient pediatrics
5. What is your salary? $25 per hour plus differentials
6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? Angry, screaming parents, taking care of abused children
7. What do you find the most rewarding? Hugs from the little kids, thanks from the parents
8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them? My husband works a lot of overtime right now, but I see him some evenings and every other weekend
9. Would you say you get days off more or work more? I work 40-45 hour a week (have 3 days off per week) but plan to cut down when I return to school full-time

Even when it's utter chaos on my unit, I still prefer it to working in the lab.
