Feb 20, 2008 hello yall! i wanna take a survey asking every nurse out here these questions. im sorry if a similar thread like this has been made1. what degree did you get? eg: aa, bsn.. have you had other degrees in different fields? i'm an lvn with no degree. i have a diploma in vocational nursing.2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) i pursued this career for the advancement opportunities, flexibility, and income.3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? i was about 19 when i first heard of the lvn pathway.4. where do you currently work (i dont need a specific address or something like that)? a private doctor clinic? hospitals? schools? i work at a nursing home.5. what is your salary? i earn $23 hourly.6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? the customer service demands, abusive family members, snippy doctors, rude patients, and unrealistic managers all challenge me. my biggest challenges revolve around short-staffing, lack of supplies, and too many things to accomplish in 1 shift.7. what do you find the most rewarding? i am rewarded when a patient or family members compliments me on the care i've provided. even a "thank you" goes a long way.8. do you have a family? if so, how often do you spend time with them? i'm single with no children.9. would you say you get days off more or work more? for 2 years, i worked the weekend double shift, where i got 5 days off in a row every week. i worked two 16 hour shifts on saturday and sunday, and was paid for a 40 hour week. i now work 4 to 5 night shifts per week (8 hour shifts), so i don't get as many days off anymore. 10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it? i would first try to change some things about nursing before choosing a different career. all careers have their positive and negative aspects.

By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far?too many patients, especially vented ICU patients I can't get moved out of the ER, so no rooms left for the ER patients stuck in the waiting room.7. When(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? a month before I turned 204. Where do you currently work (I dont need a specific address or something like that)? A private doctor clinic? Hospitals? Schools? hospital5. What is your salary?$22/hr +shift differential, charge nurse pay, overtime, etc6. By far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? high ratios, not being able to provide as good of care as I want to, my first code last weekend:down:7. What do you find the most rewarding? seeing smiles on my patient's and their familes faces, and knowing I help put them there8. Do you have a family? If so, how often do you spend time with them? no kids, a fiance...I see him only on the days I don't work (I work 12s)9. Would you say you get days off more or work more? I work 3-12s a week, have 4 nights off...unless I pick up OT10. If you could choose a different career, would you do it? Definitely not. Even when I hate my job, I remember the pay, the fact that I make my own schedule for the most part, and it is very flexible. Overtime is available if I need money, but not mandatory. I couldn't imagine being stuck in a 9-5 M-F job (my original plan!)

Feb 20, 2008 1. what degree did you get? eg: aa, bsn.. have you had other degrees in different fields? aa no other degree but plan to get bsn then hopefully msn 2. why did you pursue this career (demand, family request, your own interest, money, passion, etc) own interest and passion3. when(or how old) did you realize you wanted to become a nurse? when i was very young 9-10. i would stay w/ my aunt in the summers who was a nurse and i looked up to her. it took me awhile to achieve it but i finally did it!4. where do you currently work (i dont need a specific address or something like that)? a private doctor clinic? hospitals? schools? the best place in nursing the ed5. what is your salary? $19.33 for days, $20.13 for nocs6. by far what is the most challenging thing you have faced so far? it has definatly been a challenge for me switching to the ed after 1 yr experience on surgical. adjusting to not spending a lot of time with my patients, it's a different focus in the ed. it is a whole new world but i love it and look forward to learning so much more!7. what do you find the most rewarding? i love to have those moments w/ the patients where you get to visit and really find out who they are. i love to see their faces light up when they talk about their families and their life. it always feels good to see them get well and to be complimented on being a good nurse.8. do you have a family? if so, how often do you spend time with them? 3 girls 10-7-6 i probably get more time w/ my kids than most parents who work typical hours.9. would you say you get days off more or work more? depends, i work 2-4 days a week and usally get btwn 2-5 days off in a row. i will work more if short staffed so far that has not been too often.10. if you could choose a different career, would you do it? absolutley not
