I started nursing school at age 27, ten days after getting married.
In junior high, when asked by a teacher what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told her 'A NURSE!!",she just laughed and said all little girls wanted to be nurses.
Well, here I am , an RN at age 31 and loving every minute. It took ten years due to several setbacks but it's been worth it!!
However, I sure wish I had been a CNA prior to working as an RN. It sure would have made my life a LOT easier!! It's not easy supervising CNAs and not having been one!!

I graduated from an ADN program at 36. I got my first real nursing job at 40. Got fired from that at 46.
I spent the next 9 years perfecting my drug addiction.
Got clean at 52 (still clean, by the way), went back to college, got a bachelor's in behavioral science. Graduated at 55:eek:
I've had my current job since graduating college.:)

I was 26 and so young and bold. Looking back over more than a decade, I'd do it all again! Hubby's now threatening an over the hill birthday party for me next year. LOL. I plan on nursing for the next 25 years and then retire. He can wait to throw that party when I'm at least 70! If I make it, I will have been a nurse for 40 years when I hang my cap. Hope I make it!

I graduated with my PN 10 days before my 40th birthday. I am now 42 and will sit for the NCLEX-RN next month. I plan on continuing my education to hopefully become a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. I will probably fall into the same category as my patients by the time that I am finished!!! haha It took all my life for me to decide that I love to learn, so I'm just going to keep on going until I can't go anymore.

Hey biblepoet,
Is midlife crisis really for REAL?? Honestly? I think I'll graduate at the age of 50 for my BSN, MSN and PhD (by this time, a PhD is a requirement, if one desires to stay middle class) --- Yup, 50! Lol. Then, I figured I'll do another 20+ more years to go, to put into the nursing profession. Yay? By the time I retire, the retirement age will be around 67 or 70? Eeeww.
