I was 21 (after a 4 year degree!). Yeah I know, just a baby.

HI :) I was 19 when I started nursing school, my whole first year I could not buy a beer but I was taking care of patients and giving them meds!! I graduated when I was 21 and I was the youngest of my class. I believe its a little hard to graduate when you are young nowadays, all my classamates where above 25 and I felt like the baby, still at work I am the youngest RN in the hospital, its cool though I am very proud of myself, I am working towards my masters and hopefully I'll be a ARNP by the time I am 25

i was 18 when i became a nursing assistant. and i will be 28 when i become an lpn in march 2003.

I became an NA at the young age of 19, and an LPN at 22.

:) (I also missed this the first time around.)

Started AD classes 6/75 at age 17-graduated 6/77 and have worked same facility since. First 10 yrs. in Med/Surg, and the last 15 in Out Patient/Clinic Nursing. Wouldn't/couldn't think of being in any other profession.

Staying involved in the professional organization and in Local Unit activities keeps things even more interesting.

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

lpn-age 31, and rn, i will graduate may 2004 at age 43.

Specializes in O.R., ED, M/S.

After working for 5 years as a Paramedic and at the local morturary, I decided to check out the "new" nursing program at the local JC. This was on a dare from an older LVN friend of mine. This was 1975 and I graduated in 1977 from the very first class. I have worked in the OR for the last 25 years and can't think of anything else I would rather do. One of these days I will go back and get my BSN, but for now I love to work and don't care to much for the higher education, I learn something everyday. Mike

I began nursing as my third career at age 41 after fast tracking it through a 2 year ADN program. :nurse: Out of school and straight into the ER. Fortunately I had no idea how much I didn't know or I would have been terrified...lol. I thought I was prepared with 5 years of EMS experience behind me...NOT! As fate would have it, I had a fabulous preceptor and all went well...:D

My first real job was as a bartender :smokin:, which I did for many years...(I figure that's where I got my most significant psych training). :uhoh3:

After that I worked with developmentally disabled children/adults and the frail elderly for twelve years. That was when I decided that if I was going to do nursing type duties I would finally go for it and enter nursing school. I had looked into it 10 years earlier, but circumstances prohibited me from pursuing it up until this point.

I wish I would have gotten into nursing from the get-go, but am glad I finally got up the courage to do it at all!

I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else :D

If being a medic in the army counts, I started at 17. However, didn't get my RN license until I was 35.

I was 28 when I started nursing school. I worked as a unit secretary/monitor tech for 4 years prior to that. During nursing school I was a nurse tech. It will be 12 years this December and I don't regret a minute of it.
