Support Planned Parenthood Today!

Updated:   Published

I see in the news that anti-choice organizations are planning demonstrations today at Planned Parenthood facilities around the US to support GOP plans to defund PP.

Of course, my first thought was to grab a sign (and my, ummm, "kittyhat"!) and head for my local facility to show my support for PP, but I also see in the news that PP offices are asking that supporters not show up at the facilities to counter-protest (because they don't want the crowds of protesters any larger or more chaotic than necessary as women are trying to get in and out for services).

Some communities are planning counter-demonstrations in other venues, but I haven't been able to find any information about any events planned in my city.

So, I've decided to set aside the time planned for the anti-choice demonstration in my city today to contact all my elected representatives, from the White House down to my state legislators, and Tom Price at DHHS, to remind them that I support PP and am strongly opposed to any efforts to restrict women's reproductive rights or Planned Parenthood's access to public healthcare dollars as a legitimate healthcare provider.

I hope PP supporters here will consider doing the same, and spread the word to people you know. I hope people all over the country will have the same thought. Wouldn't it be great if, while comparatively small groups of protesters are standing out in the cold and snow with their signs, huge numbers of Americans were flooding mail boxes and switchboards around the country with messages of support for PP, women's health, and reproductive rights?

I also know of NO pro-choice organization that supports women being forced to have abortions. Obviously, I am pro-choice and I don't support the idea of coercing women to do something they want to do.

The two women I have known who had abortions weren't forced to do so. It was their choice.

The racism argument is one I have heard before made by the anti-choice side. Nothing new there.

If a partner is forcing a woman to have an abortion, there are clearly big problems going on, including most likely physical abuse of the woman. Perhaps she is pregnant because she was raped by her partner. That woman is clearly in an abusive relationship and needs to help to free herself from the situation.

OK. Fair enough, but that doesn't seem to matter to the boyfriends or parents of women that do not want to have an abortion and want desperately to keep their child. Women are brought to abortion clinics against their will and coerced into the procedure.

So if it's none of anyone's business, why can girls be threatened with violence and abandonment if they won't go along?

cite these cases, immediately.

Well, here is an example from today's Washington Post of an undocumented immigrant being DENIED her constitutional right to an abortion. A federal judge has over-ruled the Trump administration in this case. Please notice the last paragraph which states that the teenager was coerced into going to a Christian pregnancy center by federal workers.

So, it is an example of a teenager being coerced into continuing a pregnancy, which I believe is probably more than the norm, than the other way around.

Chutkan countered that the teenager does not need a medical emergency to exercise her right to an abortion. She said the girl had followed state and federal rules: She obtained permission from a state judge in Texas to have an abortion and would cover the expenses herself or with help through her court-appointed guardian.

All the government had to do, the judge said, is process the paperwork to let the girl visit the clinic, just as they would if she needed to have her tonsils removed.

Stewart said the girl could also voluntarily leave the United States and find another way to have an abortion, and said the girl had chosen to remain in federal custody instead of returning home.

That claim appeared to irk the judge, who pointed out that the federal workers took the girl, against her wishes, to a Christian pregnancy facility for counseling and also informed her mother about the abortion. Both steps potentially violated the girl's constitutional right to privacy and other protections, Chutkan said.

Lots of us have argued for years that, by refusing to fund abortions but providing state funding (Medicaid) for prenatal care and delivery, states are routinely coercing poor women into having children that they would not necessarily choose to have.

Where you were at the time of Nia's torture is of no consequence. You knew about it and did nothing,

no i didnt know about it until after it happened and the case went to trial and was published in the media

Had I known about it at the time, you can be assured I would have done something about it before it ended in disaster. I have acted multiple times in the cases that I have known about and been more than slightly privileged to help make a difference for these kids.

just as you know about the other dozens, scores, hundreds, and thousands of children who are currently being starved, beaten, tortured today all over the world, yet you do nothing.

Pretty arrogant assumption to assume you know what I do or dont do to help vulnerable children. Fortunately I'm a nurse, not a millionaire so I dont get to do as much as I would like to.

Mathew 4: 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 5And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.…
what I do is none of your business.

Distance and ignorance of them and having any other commitments are not excuses. That's what you told me. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. So get busy.

Never said any such thing. And like I said, to assume what I do or dont do is pretty damm arrogant

You ridiculously did it to me but you get all upset when it is done to you. You required me to know by telepathy what was happening to millions of children, at any given time or place, and to intervene.

Well, you don't seem to be any better at it than anyone else. And your financial status and job title are not excuses, just as my life factors were of no consequence to you. Arrogance to the max on your part.

A video on youtube. News to me, probably not to a lot of others.

"The Voice of John" is another.

Here is an update on the missing toddler in TX who was later found dead. It is from today's NY Daily News.

Just as I suspected, this child didn't live within a vacuum. A doctor reported her findings of abuse to the State, which apparently did nothing.

Again, children in this country aren't treated with care and respect by their parents, caregivers or the State. Is it better that this child was born and beaten and murdered by her caregivers, or better that she was never born.

It seems to me that during her short life, she did indeed suffer, and all at the hands of those who supposedly loved her.

A Texas toddler whose body was found following an intense search had shown signs of abuse, including fractured bones – and a pediatrician says she reported the abuse to state officials months before the girl's mysterious death.

Suzanne Dakil, testifying Wednesday at a custody hearing in Dallas County court, said that Sherin Mathews – who was found dead in October – was underweight and sent to her clinic in January.

She testified that Sherin was admitted to the hospital for a skin infection and possible joint and muscle infection in February. The girl had injuries to her upper-arm bones and had a previous elbow fracture in September 2016, which was before seeing Dakil.

Fractures in Sherin's leg bones were also discovered. Her parents, Wesley and Sini Mathews – who have been charged in connection with her death – explained away the injuries with stories of being pushed off the couch by her sister or falling off of a playground, Dakil said.

I was conceived in rape. I'm also a follower of Jesus, and God is pro-life. Killing someone because they are unwanted or putting a price tag on the cost is not compassion.

Pearls before swine my friend...

If all of a sudden men could get pregnant, the pro-life politicians and right wing hypocrites would change their tune so fast, your head would spin. Can you imagine how quickly things would change?

The Bible does not discuss bombs made from fertilizer, the use of airplanes as weapons of mass destruction or gas chambers, either.

We are taught "Thou shalt not kill..."

I'll agree to disagree, but have no doubt that the aforementioned Commandment refers to the willful destruction of innocent life, regardless of the means.

airplanes and chemical fertilizer did not exist in that time. abortion did, in fact directions for inducing one are given in the old testament.

There are many negative and evil things in th Bible but they are there to teach us what NOT to do, how NOT to act, not because they are ok with God or that he sanctions them.
