Support Planned Parenthood Today!

Nurses Activism

I see in the news that anti-choice organizations are planning demonstrations today at Planned Parenthood facilities around the US to support GOP plans to defund PP.

Of course, my first thought was to grab a sign (and my, ummm, "kittyhat"!) and head for my local facility to show my support for PP, but I also see in the news that PP offices are asking that supporters not show up at the facilities to counter-protest (because they don't want the crowds of protesters any larger or more chaotic than necessary as women are trying to get in and out for services).

Some communities are planning counter-demonstrations in other venues, but I haven't been able to find any information about any events planned in my city.

So, I've decided to set aside the time planned for the anti-choice demonstration in my city today to contact all my elected representatives, from the White House down to my state legislators, and Tom Price at DHHS, to remind them that I support PP and am strongly opposed to any efforts to restrict women's reproductive rights or Planned Parenthood's access to public healthcare dollars as a legitimate healthcare provider.

I hope PP supporters here will consider doing the same, and spread the word to people you know. I hope people all over the country will have the same thought. Wouldn't it be great if, while comparatively small groups of protesters are standing out in the cold and snow with their signs, huge numbers of Americans were flooding mail boxes and switchboards around the country with messages of support for PP, women's health, and reproductive rights?

That's why your tax dollars don't go to fund abortions, I'm still not clear why there are those who believe their tax dollars do fund abortions.

33 states provide funding for abortions under Medicaid, 4 include fetal impairment.

Tax dollars do most definitely fund abortions and abortion providing institutions.

We need to support clinics like PP that give care to the underserved. Also, people speak about abortions being wrong, but it will reduce homeless and disadvantaged population amounts. People can focus on getting ahead and not have to worry about a baby holding them back.

I totally support planned parenthood. They offer so many health services besides abortion. If you don’t like abortion, don’t have one. That’s my philosophy.

I am totally pro life. And my philosophy is if you don't want a baby, don't get pregnant.

If only it were that easy. However, seeing as women are the ones that get pregnant, it almost sounds like you’re making it only the woman’s responsibility. There is absolutely no 100% effective birth control method, even if used correctly. So are you saying no one should have sex unless they’re willing to risk pregnancy? There’s coerced sex in abusive relationships, rape, “stealthing”, birth control failure, and so many other things that can lead to an unplanned/unwanted pregnancy. You’re pro life. Great. But your philosophy ends where my own begins. And my philosophy is that consensual sex is fun and not just limited to procreation.

Of course I'm not saying it is only, the woman's responsibility to prevent pregnancy. You're reading something into ifbthst I did not imply. Never the less, the man should be concerned as well. And a couplecan always use more than one birth control method to increase the chance of prevention . One or both could also go get cut and/or snipped.

I am also, neither blind nor deaf. I read and hear things everyday about abused people, and being raped, etc, etc. It's all over the place.

I know sex is fun, too, and so are lots of things are fun . and alot,of fun, things come with risks.

Riding a motorcycle is fun too, and I don't know about you but I wouldnt get on one without a helmet. Point is, we must use our common sense and take precautions where necessary.

You are an RN, with a BSN and MSN degrees, so,I,know you're very educated. If you have or had daughters, did you allow them to start relationships with the boys without knowing what all comes from having unprotected sex? And not only pregnancy, but STDs? Don't young women need to protect themselves from diseases as well? I never said it was only the woman's responsibility to prevent a pregnancy. You assumed that.

But each person, has to accept responsibility for themselves, and the consequences of their actions. And with nature being what it is, most of that may fall on the woman.

So your philosophy ends where mine begins. I'm still pro life, your argument hasn't changed a thing, and if you don't want a baby, be responsible and don't get pregnant.

Her body her choice. Some clump of cells isn’t going to hold me back from my career. If I got pregnant now I’d abort the hell out of it.

What an insanely vile statement. I truly feel sorry for you, but I'm glad no child will have you as a mother. Sheesh, may God have mercy on you.

This is the same poster who called people "idiots" in a thread calling alternative therapies "witchcraft". Believe me, that poster doesn't need children with the lack of maturity displayed...

Why do people get bent out of shape over a bunch of parasitic cells? As soon as you have a zygote that’s a human being? Don’t get me wrong, at a certain point, I wouldn’t get an abortion. But you have time before then, third trimester abortions are like SUPER rare. But 1st or 2nd trimester? Yep, it’s gone.

Pro life people are fooled by the patriarchy. Why do you think men were ahead in past times? Because they aren’t punished with children for having sex.

And I never said that I don’t want children. I don’t want children NOW because it will ruin my plans.

But I challenge women to fight the patriarchy. Think about it. Prostitution allows women control over their own body. If it was legal, there wouldn’t be as many “pimps” and they could receive all of the money for the services that they provide men, it’s illegal for women to go topless but not men. Many people are trying to make abortion illegal again. There’s a war on women, and that’s why THIS VERY DAY, there are marches all over the world!
