Summer 2012 - Check in

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

OK, since enrollment for Summer 2012 is close to starting, I figured I'd get the ball rolling for those of us who are taking courses this summer.

What courses are you taking? Is this your first time taking the class? When will you apply for nursing school?

Good luck to you all and let's keep each other updated on our summer classes in this thread :D

I'm taking 2 courses this summer (5 week semester)

Anatomy I - 4 days a week 12pm - 4 PM

Intro to Statistics- 4 days a week 10am -12pm

I was accepted to Nursing school and will be starting full time in the Fall of this year!

I am going in as a transfer student and 98 of my previous credits from my bachelors degree are being transferred over (General ed requirements and some electives)

I am both nervous and excited to start school!

Good luck to you! Wish me luck too!!!!!! :)

I just finished the last classes towards my AA degree which were micro, nutrition and stats over the weekend. I submitted my application last Friday for the program now I'm playing the waiting game.

Did you like Micro over A&P???

They are such different classes. I *loved* Micro when I took it back in '94. The labs were so much fun and I had a wonderful professor that made class enjoyable. It was HARD, but I learned so much and I felt like I really accomplished something getting an A in that class. I can't believe I have to re-take it, since the credit is "too old" to accept. However, I'm looking forward to re-taking it.

As for A&P, I took that 25 years ago. I loved the Anatomy part. The Physiology made the Anatomy "click". Anatomy was a LOT of memorization, whereas the Physiology was the "why" of how it all works together.

I enjoyed each class, respectively. However, I have to say that I just loved labs in Micro the best :D

I'm planning on taking chemistry over the summer in an 8 week course. My parents don't want me to though, however, since it's at night in such a shady area. They're worried about me getting shanked on my way to the car. Lol it actually is that bad, but people have taken night classes there before and were fine.

If i don't take it, then i'll be at my JC for 4 years =\

I just finished micro this semester and in my opinion it was better for me than anatomy.

I am taking pharmacology this summer. We had to get invited to enroll in this class, so this is my last class before nursing school. My application already went in so all I have to do is pass this class and pass the final math test at the end of the semester then I will be in. ;).

Specializes in CMSRN.

I am registered for:

Human Pathophysiology

Statistics

Public Speaking

General Chemisty

Each class two days per week for 11 weeks.

I LOVED Micro so much. Anatomy was good but Micro was just such a fun class.

Leenak what made Micro fun?? Is it studying diseases??

I think the labs in micro are great as you become a microbe detective. In general, you learn about all sorts of microbes and you learn about various bacteria and viruses that can affect us. You learn about how antibiotics/antivirals work as well as vaccines. You even learn a smidgen of public health type stuff and how to put it all together.

I'm taking Intro to Psych and Nutrition over the summer. I'll be applying to the nursing program next spring for the following year Spring or Fall.

This was my first semester of pre-reqs and I should wind up with an A in both classes I took... Only 3.5 years to go!! LOL
