Summer 2017 Chat

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

Hiya! Welcome to the chat! Religion is an interesting course. I kind of wish my college offered something like that to help gain a better insight into other's beliefs -- but alas I don't believe they do.

I'm sorry, Jen, you said an 1100 PAGE paper? I hope 1100 was the words, instead! I would drop out and go for the circus if I had to write more than about ten pages.

I'm procrastinating so hard and kicking myself in the face over it -- but I keep doing it. I don't know what my issue is. I should have just taken the extra semester and had a lighter load over summer. Ugh.

I actually got the summer off...yay me :) I completed my courses in Spring, took the TEAS back in April and received my acceptance to the LVN program for Fall 2017. Easy summer right? Nope! Working all I can till August, so I can have some money to get me by. Textbooks are not cheap and those uniforms :wtf:

Yes, words! Sorry, I kept writing pages all over the place. I don't know what switch was flipped in my poor brain. How is med term going?

I'm so in over my head this semester. There's just so much work to do in each of my classes. Papers, discussion board posts, homework, tests, online busy-work. I literally just spent 5 hours working on music appreciation stuff. Chem test tomorrow that I'm not at all prepared for. Four more weeks - or so I keep telling myself. Then I was having all these doubts and wondering if this is what I should be doing, and I just wanted to bury my head in the sand. Oh well, I'll carry on.

Hope everyone is well!

Hey everyone! For those of you currently in the midst of summer courses, best of luck! I'll be starting an online Psychology course (six week duration) next week. I am really looking forward to it as I'll be preparing to tackle my last prerequisite (second semester of a combined Anatomy and Physiology course) in the fall semester.

This summer I am also planning on prepping for the TEAS exam. I do not have to take it until next May, but I'd rather be over prepared and space out my studying.

Is everyone still hanging in there? I haven't had a whole lot of time to pop in with the intensity of summer school.

So far I'm doing pretty well. My first chem test I didn't do as well as I'd hoped - a 78, but I took the second one today and I got a 90. So yay me. Two more tests to go and then a final (~2.5 more weeks).

Music appreciation is fine - it's more like music history. I have a 98 in the class so far. Texas government is a bit dry, but easy enough. I have a 94.

I'm counting down the days!

First time posting here, too! I'm taking A&P I, General Bio, Dev Psych, and Statistics this summer. Only one is in person, the rest are online. I'm a little bit overwhelmed already! But I've been going to school for just three weeks and I've learned a TON. I'm truly surprised by how much I enjoy it--the material, not the endless quizzes and labs!

Since I'm older, (40s) I feel like I don't have any time to waste, so I'm taking APII, Micro, and Nutrition in the fall. For most of the programs I'm applying to, that's all I need! But one program, which happens to be the closest to home, affordable, and excellent, requires two semesters of Chem, too. I don't know how I'm going to squeeze that in, since I was hoping to apply this fall and winter! I might have to put off applying to that program for another year.

(Though I might be able to squeeze in Chem I in the second half of the summer, after my Bio class ends, and Chem II in the fall, though I'll be back to work. Has anybody done this??)

Is it Gen Chem or Intro Chem?

Is it Gen Chem or Intro Chem?

It can be either one, apparently, as long as it's a two-semester sequence.

Hey guys! Long time no talk! Needless to say, I've been extremely busy. A&P II is kicking my butt. And then working 2 jobs on top of it is just adding a whole other dimension to my life. lol We've had 4 quizzes, 1 lecture exam, and 1 lab practical so far. 100% on all 4 quizzes and my lab practical and a 96% on my lecture exam. :) Endocrine and circulatory/blood felt like a cakewalk compared to this unit though- cardiovascular, blood vessels, lymphatic, and immune... all in 7 class periods. Woof. lol I'm trying to stay on top of everything but last week was rough because I worked more than normal. We have another quiz tomorrow, a quiz on thursday, and then our lecture exam/lab practical over this unit on Monday next week. I took PTO on both Saturday and Sunday to study though because lord knows I need it.

For those who have taken A&P II, which system(s) did you find the most challenging? Our third unit is respiratory/urinary/water & electrolytes and our fourth is digestive and male/female reproductive. I'm just trying to get a feel on what to expect. As of right now, cardio has probably been the most challenging for me, seeing as we did in all in 2 lectures. I'm a bit nervous for my exam next week because of it. :/

Respiratory system was a little challenging, but not too bad. That was the "hardest" of the ones you have coming up (for me). I enjoyed the urinary system, water & electrolyte balance and the digestive system. I can't imagine how nuts it is to do it all so quickly! I'm doing Chem II in four weeks and I feel like I'm a chicken with my head cut off, but this is much easier than A&P II!
