Summer 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

Congrats Jen!! You did amazing and should be very proud of yourself. :)

I'm so nervous to take the TEAS exam, even though it's not until August. I have to score in the high 80s (like, 88%) to even be competitive to get into the program... many people who are accepted score in the 90s, though. :(

The biggest recommendation I have is to NOT rely on the TEAS study manual for the science portion of the test. It was nothing like the actual test, and I don't feel it did a good job of preparing me at all. I was scoring in the high 90's on the practice tests, and that was my lowest score for the actual test. It was just so different that I felt blindsided and did poorly. There were a lot more DNA/genetic related questions than I was prepared for. I haven't really studied genetics at all.

It felt really easy, but obviously I didn't do as well as I wanted to.

Mine is just through the local community college. Luckily there are a very well respected school in terms of graduating with a degree from there and people know you're gonna know your stuff. So I'm also gonna do the RN program through them too then after that a BSN just to maximize my chances. Maybe check your local colleges?

Ok thanks for letting me know! We did a big unit on genetics in my biology class last fall so hopefully that'll help me some. I bought the ATI Secrets TEAS 6 study guide. Is that the one you used?

Yep that's the one! I found the math to be much easier, and the English and reading to be pretty much the same. You'll do great!

My school is on the quarter system. There are only about 2 weeks left of the Spring quarter (I'm finishing up a 1-credit independent psych study) and then I am scheduled to take my TEAS test on June 16th. I'm super excited, but also very nervous!

After I take the TEAS, I should know in a few weeks if I made it into the Fall quarter start of my school's RN program.

I take my teas in June 17

In general is was easier. Science stumped me a few times, just wasn't expecting the types of questions they asked.

How do you think it compared to the questions in the app you used?

That might be a better tool. I mostly used the app for math, because that was my weak point. The questions did seem more challenging on there than in the book.

I just submitted my first of two nursing school applications! It's my second choice school. How exciting!!!

I just started A&PII today. Went over the syllabus and skinned a cat. Somewhat eventful day. Have to crack open the book and begin reading/studying.

You skinned a cat on your first day?! I'm so envious! We dissected rats towards the end of the semester. I'd have loved a kitty.

Haha! We're using the cat all semester-long so we had to start skinning right off the bat. First 5 weeks is for muscle identification, then lab exam -- and the last 5 weeks is for organ and blood vessel identification, then 2nd lab exam. I'm looking forward to but also dreading learning the location and names of the muscles and their functions :wacky:
