Summer 2017 Chat

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

What did you say your first degree is in? I'm so blown away by the amount of course work you can handle. It's freaking INSANE!!

Is this directed at me? haha If so, my first degree is in Musical Theatre! :) Idk I guess it's partly because I've always done a lot? From a very young age I began playing club and school soccer year-round, competing in both club and school track/cross country, taking private voice and piano lessons, taking dance and acting classes, performing in several musicals a year, and managing all AP and honors courses once I entered high school. And yes, the majority of this was done at the same time. lol So I guess I just developed really good time management skills throughout the years and like I said, when you're used to doing a lot at one time you don't really know anything different. haha ;) I try to stay organized and my planner goes with me EVERYWHERE. And I make sure to bring my books with me to work so that in my downtime I can, for example, make flashcards for A&P and such and review previous lectures. I learn and absorb quickly, though, so I know that helps!

Wow musical theater, that's so cool! My bachelors is in music as well. I taught private voice lessons before my son was born and I became a SAHM.

Hi everyone! I'm also giving myself a summer off from school AND work before starting an ADN program in August. To prep for my first semester, I'm planning to do a comprehensive A&P review on my own (haven't had it in about a year), and complete my Basic Life Support certification. On my non-nursing school to do list is completing about 30 continuing ed hours to keep the certification I earned through my first degree (Certified Health Education Specialist), and finalizing all the plans for my wedding in January so that I don't have to worry/think about those shenanigans when school starts.

I ran out of prerequisites to take in December, so I've been super restless without having school stuff to do, too!

Med surg 3 in June. Geriatrics in July psych in August

First summer off in a few years from course, until the fall when I start the Nursing program. I am going to enjoy it

Me too! This is first summer that I'm not officially working or in school and I'm bored out of my mind. I miss being in school because it gave me something to do and it's all I know sadly.

But good news: I also start my nursing program August 21st and I can't wait!

I will be taking organic Chem lecture and lab, a wellness class (online), and theatre in society (online). I'm dreading all three of these which is why I've decided to take them in the summer, so they go by quicker.

I'm also studying for my TEAS test, which I take on June 9th. I'm also starting a new job on June 5th, so I hope to be prepared for the TEAS before my new job and the semester start. I've applied to the nursing program and all that's left is my TEAS scores, so when they're sent in I'll be relieved. I'll find out if I got in around September!

This will also be my first semester that I'll be working, while also taking care of my 2 year old, so it will be a challenge! I'm going to have to make it work though, so wish me luck!

I wish you the best of luck!

I don't have any children but I can relate, I babysitt my 7 month old brother every day for 8 hours and he's a handful and a joy at the same time. Plus, he just got out of the hospital from a 11 day stay so I have been spoiling him nonstop because he deserves it!

Hey Jen, for my summer courses I'm taking a mental health nursing class and a Nursing concepts and Clin l. Wish me luck lol. Seems like a lot crammed into 10 weeks.

My nursing program has a 16 credit accelerated summer as well where you can take no fewer than 8 credits the 3 semester.... It seems scary.

Please let us us know how your semester is going and I wish you the best of luck!

You can come finish my online class for me! It's technically 8 weeks long but I have to finish it in 2. So far I'm done with the first 5 weeks and have written 5 papers, taken 5 exams, and read over 300 pages of my textbook + countless articles in the past 7 days. I'm literally going insane, mainly because I despise writing papers and online classes. lol Definitely a classroom/interactive learner.

Yikes! I'm very good at writing paper but I've never been a fan of them. What class is this?

Just took the TEAS for the first time. Virtually no study apart from briefly (15 min ) looking over the science section. Got a 72.7 % on first try which apparently is about average. Best scores were in math and reading. Science section was toughest but none of this test was difficult. I actually feel I should have scored much better. Hopefully it will be enough to get into an ADN program.

Were you able to use a calculator? I keep hearing conflicting things. I can do it by hand, but I'd prefer to use a calculator if possible.

I just finished my first practice test and scored an 86. I take mine on Tuesday.

Specializes in ICU Stepdown.

Just received my syllabus for this summer! For one class it seems pretty intense; an exam every other week. Hopefully with it being fast paced, this summer will go by quickly :)

Jen let me know how it goes!! I'm taking mine at the end of August since it just has to be completed by September 1st. Wanted to give myself a month to study after finishing A&P II in July. But I'm still super anxious about it. Praying for us both that a calculator is included! lol
