Stupid, I know, but more bad representations of NURSES on tv!

Published

Anyone watch 'The Walking Dead'? I love the show, but tonight, I got a little annoyed. Stupid reason too, because compared to most shows, even those that try to be medical shows, this one isn't all that bad.

But the Governor meets some friends, one of them is a nurse. She comes in to bandage a wound on his face, uses some kind of disinfectant to clean it, then frickin BLOWS ON IT!!! Ugh, dug my nails into my hand to stop myself from yelling in exasperation.

Why, oh why, when they depict nurses on tv, can they not spend a little extra money to at least do it right?!

Ok, rant done. Lol.

Wait...are you saying that doctors AREN'T sex-crazed people who will go at it anywhere? I guess I need a new job...:-)

My boyfriend always teases me for yelling at the TV when medical shows are on. (I especially like CPR scenes where the rescuer grunts as he breaks every rib). But he can't keep quiet when television cops act like doofuses, so then I laugh at him.

Every time I watch some police procedural, my husband's always chiming in: "That's illegal! I've never seen a prosecutor anywhere near a crime scene! You can't break their face before taking them to jail! I would have shot that guy ten seconds ago!"

What about all the horror movies? There is never anybody around, the hallways are always empty.

Agreed. Some of you are too young to remember the fine show Nightingales.

LOL...that old chestnut.

I was less infuriated by her blowing on the wound and more infuriated by her blabbing on about how nice it is to have something to do again... REALLY?! Nursing is a lot more than swabbing a very superficial wound with alcohol. She made that sound like it was such a big and important task. If anyone in the general public took that seriously, they're going to think we're incompetent to do anything but wipe an injury and that we have pretty much nothing complicated to do. Maybe I'm the only one who interpreted it that way...

You get upset at THIS? You should hear the commotion my zombie friends raise about this show! Man, it's enough to raise the dead...

Ok, you owe me a new keyboard. I snarfed on mine.

+1 to you

So many things on the Walking Dead having me screaming at the television. Blowing on the wound, the ETT lubricated with zombie slobber, sawing off limbs without any protective gear. But one thing bothers me more than all of that combined and has me at wits end...

WHY IS THE **** CAR ALWAYS SO CLEAN AND SHINY!?!?

Yes that annoyed me too. And she was dabbing at. Why? She was barely touching it with the alcohol swab. Then she blows her hot (everybody's infected with the zombie virus breath) all over it. Ugh.

Considering that they're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and are likely to become either the main course or the diners anyway, does it really matter if someone blows on the wound? ;)

I've only ever watched part of one episode...not really my speed. I'll stick to Duck Dynasty.

Dear uRNmyway,

I do not watch the show but the thought of disinfectant on a facial wound does sound horrific. My 16-year old daughter watches the show and stated that the blowing on the face by the nurse was a sign of affection as the nurse liked the Governor.

I love the show but I'll admit that I screamed at the tv after she cleaned the wound ,touched it and blew on it . I don't care if she does have the hot pants for the Governor (as do I) but really? You are a nurse? I suspect she is the kind of "nurse" we often talk about here on allnurses. The one who was really an aide or med tech or worked in the pharmacy or answered the phone in the hospital. You know who I'm talking about-the closest they come to an RN is eating lunch with one.

Little things like that I always roll my eyes. It's when they get CPR wrong I get steamed! Like the show Doctor Who from a few seasons ago, a nurse talks his wife through CPR just before she performs it on him - it was AWFUL. Like 5 slow compressions then 2 breaths awful.[/quote']

I see this all the time. Just the other day, I commented on it to my husband during a show. All I can do is chuckle.
