Stupid, I know, but more bad representations of NURSES on tv!

Published

Anyone watch 'The Walking Dead'? I love the show, but tonight, I got a little annoyed. Stupid reason too, because compared to most shows, even those that try to be medical shows, this one isn't all that bad.

But the Governor meets some friends, one of them is a nurse. She comes in to bandage a wound on his face, uses some kind of disinfectant to clean it, then frickin BLOWS ON IT!!! Ugh, dug my nails into my hand to stop myself from yelling in exasperation.

Why, oh why, when they depict nurses on tv, can they not spend a little extra money to at least do it right?!

Ok, rant done. Lol.

I don't get why EVERY show the past few years has people getting or giving injections in the neck? I just don't get it? I keep trying to anatomically figure out where the drug would even go? I keep envisioning the trachea or esophagus? They usually look like pretty long needles.

Holy crap, I saw this happen just the other day on Burn Notice and I was racking my brain, trying to remember if we were EVER taught to stick a needle in someone's neck! And of course, the answer is NOPE. SQ? Not enough fat. IM? DEFINITELY not enough muscle. WTH are they trying to do? An off center (artistic?) field trach with a 24 gauge?

On AHS Coven last week a character was getting chemo...pulled out the tubing from her IV and let it drop to the floor. The doctor came back over and reattached the tubing that had hit the floor to her Iv! Pretty sure he did not clean the port either.

Holy chemo spill, batman! Nevermind the infection control aspect--had that been my hospital, the fire department would've come running in, ribbing their way for space right behind the OSHA folks.

That kind of thing annoys me too! When watching Nurse Jackie I'm not as annoyed by her drug abuse as I am annoyed by her wearing her scrubs EVERYWHERE! She comes from treating all those patients in the ER and then hugs her kids and lounges around her house in the same dirty uniform she was wearing all day. It's a wonder her whole family doesn't have scabies and c.diff!! Then on the show Prison Break I see the character who is supposed to be a doctor administer insulin from a 5cc syringe into the antecubital region! Or how about all these shows where they "pull the plug" of a patient's vent or even just disconnect an IV and the patient dies immediately? I could go on...

I love how they defib a rhythm which is unshockable!

You get upset at THIS? You should hear the commotion my zombie friends raise about this show! Man, it's enough to raise the dead...

Oh I know there's plenty to get upset with. For some reason this really got me though lol.

My boyfriend always teases me for yelling at the TV when medical shows are on. (I especially like CPR scenes where the rescuer grunts as he breaks every rib). But he can't keep quiet when television cops act like doofuses, so then I laugh at him.

I said the same thing to my husband. What was weird was at first she waved her hand to dry it, and then she blew on it. How about the o2 tanks that really only last a few hours at most. LOL

I saw that too. Don't think he cleaned the port either.

Omg, yes, I saw this too!! Just picked it up of the floor, no fuss, and reconnected it. What? Given how she tore it out, seems like she just removed the access all together, but the doctor just twisted it back into her arm. And that's not forgetting the fact that the doc is the one doing this lol.

have you watched any Media lately? you ought to see how they're portraying nurses there.
