I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.
I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.
Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?
Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.
Thank you for reading.
Orientation is the time when a new nurse figures out how to quickly access the protocols when she/he needs them. The ones likely to be needed during an emergency should be memorized -- even if it requires the new nurse studying at home after her/his shift.
Really? So the rest of my life should be put on hold while I take home 5 binders of P&Ps? Makes perfect sense to me!
Since AN had a remodeling of the site, I've been finding/trying new features, and one I happened upon was a link to see what new "likes" have been added to posted comments since my last log-in. Imagine my utter SHOCK to see I had about a bazillion new "likes" on The Mockery of Nursing thread, which was closed down (undeservedly, IMO) a year ago!!
Me too! I am going back to those likes and thinking I said what??? Further proof that on these internet forums, the stuff you say never goes away.
Defamed? I'm not sure how I defamed anyone. I did not provide any specific names of any individuals nor did I assign blame for any very specific task. I made some pretty generalized statements regarding some pretty broad subject areas. And again, as I am not violating HIPAA, nor am I spreading falsities, I fail to see how this is a detriment to my job. I simply made some observations regarding what I have seen. And again: everything I have said has been brought to the attention of any individual who might stumble upon this sure. What are you after? Go ahead and bring it to the attention of anyone you want.
I'm sure your three preceptors will be thrilled to come on this site and see what you think of them. In fact, I hope they already have.
I think they are just confused and want to make the best choice for themselves. However, I don't think asking people online which way to go should greatly influence their decision. They need to think about it themselves and not ask others "which route should I go?" Am I you? No. Then I don't know the answer to that question.
What?
Advocating personal autonomy & internal self reflection? How radical!

Well, I gather your introduction into nursing was not the best, and I am sorry for that. One question though, have you personally posted questions here?? If so, were they answered?? If yes, do you think some of these "old nurses" you have taken issue with may have been the respondents??
On the other hand, if not, why do you think that was?

As a matter of fact, every single one of my preceptors was amazing, and I just finished nominating one for preceptor of the year.
Whoever came up with the term "horizontal violence" to describe catty passive-aggression should be smacked. How's that for "violence?"
Informational post. No response necessary in what is intended to be a frivolous thread:
Actually, it refers to Bullying.
Bullying that creates a horrible work environment, and may make them dread coming to work. (BTW, most of the "mean girls" I've observed on units aren't old enough to be COB's)
The media is filed with incidences where bullied people have harmed themselves or others when they couldn't take it anymore.

I have been following this thread, and I agree that you have not violated HIPAA, nor named any individuals, but I think some people are expressing concern that because you have used your photo as your avatar, and, I believe, your real name, if anyone who recognizes your avatar works with you, or was involved in the situations you referred to, OBJECTS to recognizing himself/herself even indirectly in your post, or to being indirectly recognized by anyone else with knowledge of the situations you referred to, some bad situations could result. Once a person posts identifying information about themself that can be recognized by other people on the internet, other people with knowledge of situations that the person posts about can place themselves in relation to that situation and to that person, and not everyone who recognizes themself even when they are not referred to by name will be charitable in their response. I think people are trying to advise you that you may be placing yourself in danger by using a photo as your avatar. In the TOS we are asked not to post identifying information about ourselves. I have to agree with the people who are suggesting that you change your avatar. I would give the same advice to any of my young relatives.
You clearly haven't read a word I said. I didn't assign responsibility for my ignorance to the P&P's on any one individual. My issue was with the fact that this particular situation was fast becoming one that I was not equipped to handle, and for the sake of patient care and safety, I requested assistance and was met with a very snarky, rude comment that was inappropriate and unprofessional. It would have taken less time to get up, direct me to the policy, and/or assist me in ensuring this patient's safety AND THEN discuss where the P&P is and/or ask me to sit and familiarize myself with it. However, this did not occur, and this nurse was not a "crusty old bat." She's older than me. With about a year more experience.
Sarahrnay, with long dark hair, thin, looks petite, kinda pretty, works med/surg on a unit with 1:6 ratio where the charge has only one more year of experience and doesn't take patients. Describing a situation on a patient where the patient was going south and asked for help when just off orientation. Characterizes response from charge as snarky, rude, unprofessional, and inappropriate. Somewhere here encouraged the charge to get off her lazy ass (I think).
Ok, Sarahrnay. If the charge you are talking about is reading this, chances are you will be in a world of hurt. CHANGE YOUR FREAKIN' AVATAR ALREADY!!
