My packet went to the board for this month and was accepted. I am going to commision on Tuesday. Does my total of my student loans that is going to be paid back need to be written in my contract? The recruiter is telling me that information will need to be given to the unit that I am being assigned. Just want to have all the facts before Tuesday. Thanks
For those of you newly commissioned, CONGRATS!!! Now my question, how long did it take from the time your packet was complete, until the time it went before the board?? My packet will be completed with my signature TOMORROW!!!! (WOO HOO!!!) It has been a long process, but now the real waiting begins... Any input will be appreciated!!!

Hi Kelly,
Congrats on getting your packet completed, it can be a very long process. To answer your question the Oct board was on the 15th, I can't remember exactly but I think that the deadline for application submission was 10/5 or somewhere in there. So it took me about two weeks before my app went to board. I was contact 10/17 by my recruiter who told me that my app was accepted. I will commission on 10/22... or in military form 22 Oct.

[sorry for the late post.....the topic has changed a bit.....
Yes, when I commission in the ARNC, I did both:

I am ready to throw up in my mouth right now. :imbar. I swear in Tuesday, and I am still confused as to what all I am signing tomorrow. Is that where I sign the contract that has the sign on bonus and loan repayment listed on it? I just don't want to sign something now, and find out later because it was not listed I won't get it. Thanks for everyone's help.
Stacee--
Congrats on your commission!! I was on the HRC website last week and there was a list of people who made it (I think it was AD only). I just hope my name shows up next month..lol. I just cant believe its gonna happen so fast!!! I am TOO excited now. I talked to my bf (deployed in Iraq at the moment) this evening and told him that I was signing my packet tomorrow. He is excited about it too. I think he's just excited to be able to tell his buddies over there that his gf is a 2LT (maybe 1LT according to my recruiter since Ive been a nurse forever). Anyway, Im holding my breath now til the November board meets.

yeah you could use.... armynurserealized or something....
kinda same story here.... arny grew on me
my bf is a Major.....in reserves... he's a S3...his unit just got activated last month...... Maneuver Enhancement Brigade out of Chicopee, MA. I met some of the people he works with (he's working ft at the moment with the Army) and thought they were fantastic people. Then I got to thinking. Looked into it a little more and figured that I could do it and get something out of it and learn something about myself in the process.
Been a nurse 12 years......... Went into school when my 5th kiddo was 11 days old, figured my now ex husband was gonna either drop dead from one of his many vices or we were gonna divorce. In any event I needed to be able to take care of my kiddos and myself and have a sense of pride doing it and be able to do something that I always wanted to do. Being a nurse was it.
So here I am. Owing all this money....well, hmmmm.....
Yeah but at least you can sleep at night knowing that you CAN take care of your kids AND youre doing something for the greater good. I went to nursing school under similar circumstances without the 'kid' factor. I thought about joining the military about a year ago (a friend of mine is a radiology tech and was thinking about it too) but I really didnt put much stock in it because I was overweight/out of shape/unmotivated..the list of EXCUSES is endless. Anyway, my bf came into my life in October (well, back into my life..we were friends in college 18-19 years ago) and he was really my entry point into the whole military lifestyle. Actually being serious about joining didnt happen til one night back in June when a friend of his made the comment 'Kelly, you really should join. If you did, he would have to salute you and call you ma'am.' We had a good chuckle, but the seed was planted. After MUCH research, I finally decided to do it. I only wish I had started the process sooner so I couldve gotten some bonus money too..
Anyway, sorry for such the long post. Its kind of off the subject BUT, my plan is to go back to school for my BSN (RN to BSN track..possibly maybe RN to MSN track..not sure yet) and then go AD. Since I dont have any loans right now, I am probably going to apply for the STRAP and go from there.

P.S. I have been reading that the Army will pay back only the principal portion of your loans, you are responsible for the interest. The SLRP is also considered taxable income too (so get ready at tax time). Im sure you already knew all of that.
