StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021

Hi all,

Thought I'd start a thread here so we can connect. I am in the process of taking my pre-reqs and plan to submit my application by the Oct 2019 deadline for the Summer 2020 start.

I'm planning on attending the Sept 19 info session on campus - anyone else going?

Congratulations to all who got accepted! I plan on applying this Summer. Can I ask those of you who got accepted, who were your LORs from? It says that we should vary our selection, but aside from professors who would be an appropriate reference? I wish you all the best during this very exciting chapter of you life.

I got a letter of recommendation from my manager from my job and a doctor I worked with as well!

I got mine from two professors and the accounting manager from a previous job.

I am an EMT and asked my supervisors. I also asked my supervisor at work.

Hey guys! I just submitted my application for the May 2021 start date and was wondering how you guys like a program so far? Do you feel like the structure and expectations of the program are reasonable?

Program is pretty reasonable overall. Passing all courses is fairly easy, getting in the A range is a bit tough but doable.

Im applying for the May 2021 start and I'm having trouble answering one of the objectives for the essay. How can nursing address and improve global healthcare needs? Any idea on how to address this question would help. Thank you!

Nurses have a lot to do with teaching clients/patients. This question can be answered with that in mind. Anything ranging from vaccines, obesity, pollution, and even being politically active is fair game.

Hi! I am in the program and this objective was a big focus on my paper. Going into the field of nursing, you have to be continuously educating yourself on social justice, the opportunities for healthcare locally, nationally and globally. What does access to healthcare look like in other countries? What about medical care? What programs are available for nurses to travel? Start there, whatever you write, make it genuine.

Thank you all for your help! I applied to other programs that begin in January 2021. Since Stonybrook deadline is Oct 8th for the May 2021 start, how long did it take for you all to receive acceptance/denials? When can I expect to hear back?

Last year they didn’t start hearing back until the last week of January and beginning of February.

Rejections I believe went out first beginning November. Invitations shortly went out after that for an interview. You get interviewed November but you will not hear back for a few months. I didn’t hear back until two weeks before the program. Stay calm and good luck!
