StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021

Published

Hi all,

Thought I'd start a thread here so we can connect. I am in the process of taking my pre-reqs and plan to submit my application by the Oct 2019 deadline for the Summer 2020 start.

I'm planning on attending the Sept 19 info session on campus - anyone else going?

Thank you all for your help! I applied to other programs that begin in January 2021. Since Stonybrook deadline is Oct 8th for the May 2021 start, how long did it take for you all to receive acceptance/denials? When can I expect to hear back?

Invitations to interview were sent out on 10/21. Interviews were completed in November. I received my acceptance on January 9th.

I don't believe you receive anything when you don't get selected for an interview until about December/January. You receive communications for being rejected, waitlisted, or accepted. If you get waitlisted you might not receive an acceptance until May.

Hi Guys,

my friend recently got an invitation to interview, but I did not. Are there multiple rounds? Is there still hope?

Thanks!

There is still time. I think my interview was in December, and it usually is about 6-8 people. Be yourself and be genuine. After the interview, there would be a quick math test and if you have taken the TEAS it would be super easy math. Make sure you can type fast for your essay because I think it was about 20 mins to write "why you want to be a nurse" along those lines. The Summer was the most difficult for me in this program. Start studying for fundamentals ahead of time. I wish I knew someone personally before the program so that would be my advice for you for the Summer. I hope your cohort is supportive because there is some competitive rivalry that some people are not willing to admit (but there is). Get your finances ready, because you will spend a lot on books close to $3,000. Also, you will cry in the Summer, lose hours of sleep, and will be studying for long periods of time because it's intense, but you will get through it. So good luck! Also, I know someone will ask "can you work?" my answer is no. You need every minute of your time to devote to this program because you are dealing with a patient's life. Learn as much as you can and ask questions. Will healthcare experience help? yes, but your peers will catch up quickly so keep moving forward. For my commuters, can it be done? yes, but you will pay a price which is time. I would move close by as possible, this is why you need to have your finances in order (it would be mentioned during your interview). Advocate for yourself! plus the professors are awesome (most of them)!

Hi!! Just wondering, would anyone happen to know the estimated total cost for the program?

Fall 2020

$6863.65

Summer2020

$7582.79

Those figures are what I paid in tuition for Fall and Summer.

I'm just finishing up the Fall semester now so I don't know the Spring tuition cost, but I'm assuming it's similar to the Fall bill. Expect like 2-3K for books, then toss in rent or commuting costs.

Thank you for your insight! I worried a little about commuting to and from because of cost and time, but I recall the interviewer saying that they are conducting classes online. Is that the case for you guys who are currently in the program too?

The entire program is online at the moment with the exception of clinicals, which are ending prior to Thanksgiving break. Other than clinicals the only in-person activities were simulation/training labs. Many people opted to commute rather than live on/close to campus because of infrequent onsite activity. That being said, I'm unsure of what next year holds.

Hello All, I have applied to StonyBrooks FNP Summer 21 program and have an interview Monday, does anyone have experience with this type of interview and it says I have to complete and essay after interview, a little nervous and would like to prepare. Thanks

I know the interviews are done, but I haven't heard anything. No rejections, no waitlist, nothing. Should I be giving up hope?

If you had an interview then the only thing to expect is silence until you receive an acceptance or waitlist in January.

I never received an interview or anything from stonybrook and it was my first choice. Pace university was my second. I got into pace so as of right now, I’m going there unless stonybrook magically decides to call me and interview me which I don’t think they will. I also applied to university of Rochester which I won’t hear the results til January but I feel confident about the results but I think I’m going to stick with Pace! The program starts in January!!

I suppose I will continue to wait. I haven’t received a yes, no, or waitlist for the Stony Brook 2021 ABSN program; my interview was in mid Nov. Keeping my fingers crossed for a New Years miracle. I’m about to submit the application for the basic 2-year program as a back up. Good luck everyone!
