ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
Hello everyone. I also applied to the 1yr program. this is my only chance to go back to school, so the 2yr is unrealistic for me. so i am keeping my fingers crossed. financially I am only able to take off the yr from work to make this happen. I did not know you can check on solar, I just run out to the mailbox everyday hoping something is there. I did all my prerequisites and worked in a healthcare agency for over 12 yrs so I am hoping that will help. I also have a 3.2 in BA in sociology and a 3.89 in my masters for teaching. I think that a teaching degree will also be beneficial cause as a nurse you are a teacher to your patients. Cant wait to hear something. good luck to all of you.

Welcome to our little world, dubra10 ...
I was a waitlist candidate in 2010 and re-applied this year. I know what you mean in terms of taking off 1 year from work to return to school. That's one of my reasons, and the other is just because I would like to start working in my new career ASAP. I am willing to do what it takes to succeed in the accelerated. I know it will be tough, but one has to be ready for that, and I certainly am!
As far as SOLAR goes, you won't literally see an admissions decision in there, per se. Right now as an applicant, there are only what, 2 boxes? What people last year who were accepted noticed was that there were additional tabs/sections added, referring to "New Student" and links to submit a deposit. This is before anyone ever got a letter and everyone who eventually got an acceptance letter pretty much saw this happen with their SOLAR screens first. It's a hopeful sign, but I would not bank on an official acceptance notice until actually getting the letter in the mail. I would hate to get my hopes up on a technical blip!!
I don't want to create chaos now by announcing this, just relaying what occurred a year ago. For all we know, SBU may have disabled that. But I guess next week will be a good time as any to start that frenetic SOLAR checking. I for one will not be checking until others start seeing things happen. In all actuality, I am kind of old school and ideally would (should) wait for a letter in the mail like I did in the past
Hi Paco69,
You just got me so nervous, knowing that you did apply last year. My heart is throbbing now,and my kneels trembling. This is just to say SBU is very very competitive, I cant imagine what you must have gone through last year while waiting for the acceptance letter. I received a mail from them Dec 15th, saying the committee has started working on the applications, so they can no longer manually check for document. I had concerns regarding my transcript, showing then as not received. So I guess by the end of this week or next week the solar should start chaninging, because they also said continue checking your solar for updates.
Hi everyone! sorry I have been so inactive with my sBU internship ending things have been a little crazy. They offered me a job at their sleep center in the mean time to my awaiting the news of the absn program though which is a nice fresh start to the new year (..and to my resume) haha. As far as decision news my boss of my internship as I mentioned earlier works directly for the dean of the nursing school and did me a few favors to eas my worries. My transcripts werents howing up as receieved I complained to hi and within minutes of his phoen call it wa all submitted. He later that week before my last day went down to the admissions department in the hunt for a decision on my application. I told him not to but he refused as he is not one to be stopped from anything he has his mind set on. They too, told him that jan 21st is the time I will have to wait for just like everyone else.
moral of the story being: if someone of his caliber who gets pretty much anything he wants, whenever he wants, was told that both he and I will need to wait til that time I think we should all rest easy until then! I hope you all had the best of holidays and wish everyone luck for the new madness we are about to endure til the end of jan, until then cheers to a new year

Don't be nervous. There is absolutely nothing else you can do for your application. In my case, there are 2 things that I did differently from last year. One was to get 2 better recommendations (while the 3rd was a repeat of last year) and the other was to complete my prereqs (Last year when I applied, had not yet taken one of them). I also rewrote my essay from scratch, I did not feel comfortable submitting the same one again. I can only hope things will go well!
Marinoh-
I think the SOLAR should change before then because that is not a formal way of notifying applicants of submission so I think that that will come before the actual dispersing of decision letters. Other thread members that applied last year that SOLAR changed the first week of January and the letters came around the 10th I believe, and I would assume this year is running one week behind last years schedule from what I have gathered through previous posts. I would think SOLAR would be changing sometime next week hopefully and letters, depending on where you live, should be received by the end of this month! So nervous the time seems to be taking forever
Honestly am really getting so nervous, I guess am going to quit checking this forum for a while to ease my nervousness. Just checked my BP, and its 150/110. Good luck paco69, kristenan110, and others awaiting the decision. Hopefully by next wk we start hearing stuff.
Thanks! I don't seem to be as nervous as you, even though in all reality ANYTHING can happen. Just because I was waitlisted last year does not guarantee anything. Is SBU the only school to which you applied? Do you have a plan B and plan C in place just in case? Things like this help to assuage stress in this situation. Stark difference for me from last year, SBU was my only application and I was in limbo waitlisted through end of June. Had no alternative but to keep working another year in a job I loathe now. Not this time. I have other schools in the pipeline and would be happy to go to any of them ... but SBU is my first choice. Please try to take it easy. I am assuming your stress stems from the "what am I gonna do if I don't get in" syndrome. With alternative plans in place, things look a lot less daunting! Convince yourself that you did the best you could on your application, and what is meant to be will happen!
Hey all! Happy New Year! It's been a while since I've posted anything. Decisions are almost here! I submitted my 2 year application today but I really hope I get into the 1 year because I don't want to play the SOLAR checking/waiting game again. ( Although I am proud to say after all my documents were shown as received, I have not touched SOLAR.)

Marinoh- Breathe! Stressing isn't going to change the acceptance process. This forum is where you should come to calm down and talk to people who understand how you feel. We are all anxiously waiting!
Stay cool everyone

I got my SOLAR login within a day or so of submitting my application. Doesn't matter whether your application is complete or not, I believe it's generated and sent when an application is submitted, and that way you will be able to track the rest of your documents.
