stomach contents in my eye and mouth!

I was admin meds via G-tube yesterday when the second "plug" came loose and it all sprayed directly in my face...most in my left eye and my mouth UGH UGH. I had to take out my contact lense because it was stuck to my eyeball, flush it out with NS and wash my face. The worst part is he is MRSA positive around G-tube. I filed an incident report, but Im still disgusted about the entire episode. Anyone else had this happen?

I think.... im gonna.... BARF. That is truly gross, so sorry that it happend to you. Worse thing to get on me was some throw up on my arm and I just about freaked out. Wishing you good luck!

Sorry this happened to you...MRSA...oh dear!

I don't have enough experience under my belt to have any stories yet. I'm still in nursing school.

My best gross out is the code brown in the bathroom on the floor. What a drippy mess that was! But...none in my eye.... LOL :loveya:

Yup, happened to me.My patient had Jakob Kreutzfeld Syndrome and forever more to this day I'm afraid Ill come down with it. Incubation can take years.

So sorry that happened to you.

I was running back to the desk to get my pt's chart because she was about to code, when I slipped on some s#$#. We had a pt that was coming off painkillers and booze and could not stay still, she would walk in the hall with her diaper hanging half off with you know what in it.

I did not injure myself but I did pull the big heavy office chair down with me. Just a bit disgusting, I had to be at my pt's bedside with everyone that was in the code smelling like a sewer. The code was a success, the pt lived and I had to where a pair of shorts I had in my car.

Sure wish we could wear shorts to work, it was very comfortable. :chuckle

Back in the day before it was common, accepted practice to use personal protection defense measures (~1977) my patient arrested and as I was doing CPR (and yes, unprotected mouth-to-mouth breathing as the ONE AMBU BAG was being used on another patient in the unit who was also simultaneously coding) the patient vomited....Yup, right into me! Sigh.....so I just spit it all out, wiped her mouth and mine, and continued CPR until the only other nurse in the nine bedded unit could come over to help me, along with the medical second year who was on call that night.

I lived. Unfortunately, that patient didn't.

You are probably already colonized with MRSA so this exposure may not be as dramatic as you think. Sorry you had such a bad day.

I once had an EMS partner who was in a similar situation. She intubated a patient and we were trying to confirm breath sounds. The tube must have been esophageal and the BVM slipped off of the end of the tube. Bloody gastric contents shot out under great pressure and exposed her in the eyes. It turned out okay in the end, but it's a nerve-wracking experience to say the least. We feel for you!

oh honey! i'm so sorry this happened. how utterly um.. unexpected! big hugs coming your way from one kentuckian to another. :hugs:

the best thing to hope for at this point is that since the pt is positive for MRSA around the peg site, that it is wound related and not stomach contents related. :)
