stethoscopes

Nursing Students Student Assist

Hi,

I just started an accelerated BSN program, and my lab instructor recommended that we go out and get a "GOOD" stethoscope, spending about $100. This caused a little debate among my classmates (some are CNAs). I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a either a good brand or model, and whether or not need to spend that much.

Thanks!!!

i actually bought one from Nurse Mates(still from allheart.com) it has a little clock on the end and i think that may come in handy cause i hate to wear watches, which by the way do they make you wear watches in nursing school? Anyhow, it was on 27.99 it was actually on sale from like 36-37, when i seen it i knew it was for me, i think i will be able to do good by my patients with it. I also got bandage scissors and Blood pressure cuffs. My school told us to get Of course Uniforms, bandage scissors, name pin, stethoscope, But they did not tell us to get blood pressure Sphygmomanometer(sp) but i want to ask you people if you had to have one for school?

Tomorrow is my B-day and now that i think about it i told me mom to get me a littman for school, and i think i may have just wasted money buying my own, and i think allheart will not cancel the order. Ohh well ill have 2.

I cannot believe i am gonna be 26 years old, wow they were right, after you turn 21 time just flies.

I got my BP cuff through them on sale for $10 and I bought my LIttman which is HIGHLY recommended for $75. Believe me, it's worth it. We are all students and all short on cash. But my friend bought a cheapie and throughout assessment and last semester in med surg clinical, she was always wanting to borrow mine to listen to the heart and lung sounds.

allheart.com has great deals:)

I purchased the Littman Master S.E II for $73; and engraved it for an extra $12.98 at allheart.com. I hope it will work for me.

Hi.

I am a 2nd semester nursing student and looking for some stethoscope advise. When I started school I bought a $30 one from the scrub store. I don't know what kind it is. I want to upgrade. A lot of people have Littmanns. I would love some recommendations. I know there are several different types of Littmanns.

Thanks!

Specializes in Critical Care, Cardiothoracics, VADs.

I have the Littman Classic II SE, and it's always worked great for me, in ICU setting.

I don't have a Littman, but the earpieces on my cheapie fabulous steth are heaven, and probably like those 'soft' earpieces you describe. Mine are jelly-like, if that helps any. They are really squishy, too.

Specializes in Peds.

I have a Littman Master Classic II and love it...... I ordered it with my name put on it. One of the nurses at the hospital where I was doing a L&D rotation said that Littmans tend to walk off, hence the name thing....

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

I have the Littman Cardiology III and it's fabulous! It has an adult and pediatric side, and it goes from bell to diaphragm by applying a little more pressure. It's perfect for my future job on a combined adult/pediatric CVICU. I think it will just depend on what area you are going into (and personal preference) because Littman has a number of really good stethoscopes. They even have one for neonates.

Thanks everyone for your imput! I've been researching and I think I found the one I want.

Thanks again!!

Hi. I also have a Litmann classic SE II- BEFORE YOU BUY, price it @ bizrate.com. I got mine from allheart, only catch, it takes almost 2 weeks to get. Ebay may be faster, just do your research.

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

I have the Littmann Cardiology III and I love it, you can hear everything with it!

Someone gave it to me for free (can you believe it?!) or else I don't think I would have spent quite so much on a stethoscope for myself (I think the cardiology ones run close to $200). Everyone I know with the Classics do just fine.

Specializes in Almost everywhere.

Love my Littmann Master Classic someday will upgrade to the cardiology
