How we seek status. Get the LPN so that you're better than the CNA, get the CNA so that you're better than the housekeeper. Get the RN so that you're better than the LPN, CNA or houskeeper. Get the BSN so that you're better than the ADN, and get the MSN so that you're better than just the ordinary BSN. But lots of people have MSNs so leave nursing altogether and become an NP And then go for the PhD, but don't stop there! One really needs to also be a fellow of the american academy of nurses and have a national certification. But then you're going to need a job to go with all that, so go work for the government or get on some editorial board of some nursing journal, or scrounge for research dollars at a university. Whatever you do--make the big bucks, because that's how you really prove you're better than just a bedside caregiver.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about power and status--I just want the real thing. I want the power and status Mother Teresa had.
Regarding bedside nursing, Peeps, sadly, I do not think so. I don't think this person ought be a nurse. And I am NOT trying to violate TOS,this is just based on the posts I have read from him/her in the last several days. It's my earnest opinion. But that is another thread.
cheers! Have a good day, all.
I think ADRN will benefit from some "opportunities for growth";) that general floor nursing can provide.
BTW ADRN, you are clearly not "lazy" as you put it if you can get through a nursing program. I think that you don't realize how more academic drive or ambition will benefit your patients though. You can never be through with learning, especially when it comes to medical subjects.
As an NM you can effect the care of all the patients on a floor, not just the ones you are assigned. A higher degree empowers people to make more of an impact. If those persons chose not to make a difference with it and are in it for the extra cash and title only, well, that's not a cause and effect of the degree.
Those kind of people just want the title.
On the other hand, if you truly want to help patients you need to seek that higher education. You're just following the will of those above you and your patients won't benefit from your concern for them if you don't have a say in the matter.
Oh WOW:eek:
This whole thing has my head spinning.
I don't care if you want to be an ADN, BSN, MSN, MD or leave nursing altogether...I'll support you. I don't care if you don't want to continue your education...I'll support you.
I'll support anyone as long as you can support me. To me, it really is that simple.
:roll :rollOriginally posted by 3rdShiftGuyI think your career in nursing is going to be very frustrating if you expect to find Mother Teresa's running around. Plus, if you're expecting that of yourself, go for it, but you're in for a tough ride.
Did your name used to be Mario? j/k [/b]
OMG--my thoughts exactly the first post I ever read by this future nurse with the chip of granite on his/her shoulder.
Why are you even posting such drivel? Sounds like you are on your second or third try at nursing school to me--hey maybe I even kicked you out of my program because of your attitude?:stone

Whatever. Let's see what the moderators have to say about your personal attacks.
I'm out of this string.
