Hi All! I currently attend Grand Canyon University online RN to BSN program. I have heard (read) many nightmarish stories about statistics and take either this or that professor and could really use some help with the name of which instructor would be best to have for this online class.

I dreaded statistics both in undergrad and in grad school. I was literally terrified because I suck at math. I got a tutor in undergrad that I paid for and it was worth the money to have someone to go through the weekly assignments with me. I passed with an A. In grad school, I also got a tutor but I got more benefit from watching lectures and instructional videos on You Tube. You Tube is actually a goldmine of information and I've used it in every class I've done. It's great for explaining basic concepts and was actually more helpful than my professor. It's tough but you can do it and you'll feel great afterwards.

YouTube was helpful for me. I hated stats and barely passed it! Good luck !

I took stats for my psych degree and one thing I noticed was when I got to apply it in an experiment it was so much easier and made so much more sense. It seemed useful. I stink at math, but stats wasn't so bad for me.

Introductory statistics for the average student (no strong math skills) has been found to be one of the most challenging courses for online delivery. This is one of those courses where interaction with a qualified instructor really makes all the difference. A talented instructor can explain concepts in ways that the students understand. She can provide clarification early enough to prevent students from "going off the rails". If you choose to take this class online, you will undoubtedly need to supplement your learning with the resources that are available online. The best online instructors integrate a lot of different techniques, including webcasts of sophisticated visual models and synchronous group work.

I topped out at trig in high school (with a C+ and glad to have it), so I wasn't looking forward to taking statistics when I wanted to go to grad school and discovered it was a prerequisite.
Lucky for me, I got some great advice: Not all statistics courses are created equal. You want the ones called "Intro to EDUCATIONAL Statistics," and it's terrific. Ask around your local area to get input on specific classes and instructors, but that's what you want.
Thank you all for your replies! I appreciate the input :) I have contacted one of the math professors at my local community college and he has given me the names of a couple qualified tutors in my area. Thank you all so much for responding with advice and words of encouragement! :)

I did stats at GCU.....GCU does offer free online tutors..you have to sign up for them. Center for Learning & Advancement | Learning Resources | Grand Canyon University I know on one of the big GCU forums on here (usually near the top of this forum) someone else mentioned another type of free tutor service.
Thank you so much Flames9_RN! I received your message, but it would not let me respond to you through pm. I appreciate the information! :) It will be a huge help!

Jujee68, I watched the videos suggested on youtube, and use the questions provided in the book they are similar. I then completed all my work as best as I could. I then signed into Thinking Storm (icon is on the first page after you sign into GCU, just scroll down a bit). This is a live online tutor session. Some of the tutors use the white board and some just use the text box. These people got me through stats, the answers that I got out of those sessions would be correct when those out of the GCU tutors would be wrong. I know that because I did both, but always trusted Thinking Storm and went with the answers I got out of those sessions. I did not pay for an outside tutor.
