When I arrived at my LTC last night I was told that the state inspectors made their unannounced visit at 3pm. I heard they were angry when they checked our shower room and found a lot of mold growing on the shower walls. The shower room also have a cabinet which contains hygiene products and is supposed to be locked in the shower room and it was unlocked and wide open when the inspectors arrived. We thought they would visit on night shift but they didn't. I'm sure they will be back today.

eek! My sympathies...Coming in late and finding that cabinet open is a good thing-all shifts need to be remined that these rules and regs are for everyone to follow and are neccessary for the resident's protection....Our housekeeper sat a can of spray cleaner down and walked away from it on Sunday and a resident proceeded to pick it up and mouth it-a cna snatched it away before she could spray it in her mouth...luckily...We do these things automatically at home to protect our children-we need to remember to do it in the LTC,too

Good luck. We are expecting them this week. Had a company in last night shampooing our carpeting. And they have been having numerous CPR classes this month. After 14 months they figured out I wasn't current so off I go today for my certification.

We just finished our survey last week. They were there from Tuesday thru Monday of the following week. They came in at 7:15 pm and stayed most days until 8-9pm. It was the most horrid experience. We did great, however, but it was so stressful. I logged over 120 hours in the building during that time. I empathasize with you. Good luck!

Isn't it amazing the staffing during a survey? Like the surveyers don't know how it really is!

:angryfire Isn't it amazing the amount of people you see during a survey. Where are all these people all year long? In their office of course. Oh and we can't forget these same people all take a day or two off afer the survey because they are so tired. Give me a break.

Glad your going to hospice soon. Sorry I know surveys are hard if they don't go well.

Good luck to you and your facility. I always hated the site of them. :angryfire Whenever I was in LTC and it was time for our survey everyone kept their eyes peeled for the white van with the decal on the door. It's amazing whenever it got within 20 miles of town everyone knew. It does get ya when the office people start coming to the floor during survey you almost forget their name until that time of year. Thank God for name tags! :rotfl: LOL Anyhoo, good luck again and keep us posted. Oh, just had a thought, has anyone that have experience the surveyors had the pleasure of them pouring water in the bed with residents to make sure Turn and Change was being done? They did it to us every time! The last two surveys I was privileged to go through we had ZERO deficiencies! Yippee!!!
Thanks all for your good wishes. In addition to that cabinet being left open in the shower room the cabinet with the harmful chemicals was also left open in the shower room. I heard they also had a lot of dirty towels on the floor and way in the back in the corner that had an old brief with BM that had turned a green color too. Today, one of the day nurses called in sick and they could not find anyone to replace her!!! So the day nurse has way too many residents and she told me she won't get done till after 11am so she will be out of compliance for the 9am pill pass. We called the RCM during the night to see if she would replace the nurse who called in but she didn't even answer her phone. State did not show up on night shift Yipee!!!
