I just want to give you some words of encouragement as I was in your shoes a few years back. I have been a stay at home Mom for 10 years. I am a former litigation attorney but decided once my children were in school, I did not want to go back to that life. I began my prereqs at age 40 when my youngest was 2 and my oldest was 6. I took one class a semester...baby steps. I was nervous about being the old lady in class. Thought I would not fit in but that was not the case at all. In fact, I think of the younger students looked at me as a surrogate Mom and turned to me for help. At age 43, I am starting an Accelerated Nursing Program next week! I am excited and terrified at the same time. For me, organization was key. Because my children are still young, sometimes I had some very late nights and early mornings. If I can do it, you can do it. Good luck!

I am not quite 40, but I am getting ready to start my last semester of pre-req classes. I did start out slow and took one class at a time for a few semesters, but my kids are still young and that is the best I could do. Finally up to three classes this semester!! Organization is important and finding out what works for you! I loved my notecards and took them everywhere with me! It was kind of a joke that I always took my books to soccer practice and games with me. I literally was never seen without my backpack and books. I love being back in class, but there have been some late nights and missed school functions too. I just wanted to give you some encouragement and wish you good luck!!

Hi & welcome!
I am 46 years old and for me time manage is a huge factor for me, check lists, and pre-reading assigments.
This term I will be taking two classes at different colleges and do work part-time.
What classes are you starting with? I would suggest save your sciences for the last, if you can?
Sounds like you are ready, and will do awesome! Just stay focused, take it slow, and stay positive!
Oh ya, fear is a good thing! You are ready!!! Blessings~

Keep your calm! It seems like school is endless, but there is an end somewhere - I'm looking for it, too!

Welcome to the exciting insanity! I am 45 and just finishing up my pre-req's. I apply for the TEAS August 2013. I have been going to college for the past 2 year's. I can tell you that the most important thing prior to taking any classes is ye olde' ratemyprofessor.com. I had no idea about this until after my first semester in college. You can look up any teacher, and it helps to take one that is a good teacher. I love this web site and still use it today. Can't say enough good things about that web site, and how it helped me pick my teachers, and I am not looking for easy, but just attainable! Just make sure you set time to study, and remember that even at our age there are some things we pick up easier than others. I would recommend a cheap tape recorder from the store, because it came in handy for me during A&P 1&2. If you have any trouble with a class go and get help from an tutor at the college asap. They are free to use, and sometimes it helps. Don't ever feel like you can't do anything because your older. Remember, "Today is the tomorrow that we worried about yesterday." Good Luck!!
SOOOOO true!! I swear by that site!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a paralegal taking my pre-req's for the nursing program as well. I work full-time and have an 7 and 4 year-old. I started last semester with one class, algebra, and stepped it up to 2 classes this semester, Chemistry and Sociology (soc is online). I'm already worrying that I've taken on too much and maybe I should drop Sociology? But I understand about the legal field, after 13 years I'm burnt out! Good luck to you!
