Started...but it's been difficult

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello All!.

Well I'm in school (attending a CC) and I take 2 night classes a week. It started off good but now it's not looking so good. I have 2 kids and it's really hard for me to get a babysitter to keep them on those day's. I work full-time Mon-Fri. and I never have time to study...I'm very frustrated, I'm at the point were I just want to stop working and attend school full time, since that's the only way I can stay focused?. I was even thinking about moving to Nevada where my mother lives who would be pleased to keep her grandchildren while her daughter goes to school full time....I guess I'm just feeling like I did everything backwards....

Thanks for your eyes...I needed to get that out.:o

I feel like I did it "backwards" at times too! I was able to complete my pre-reqs online. I liked the flexiblity of completing the work on the weekend, early morning, late evenings... and trust me.. there were a lot of late nights and early mornings. Check out the distance board for more info. I really recommend Rio Salado... just be sure that your CC accepts online science courses with a lab. Labs are completed using ADAM software.. just be prepared for lots of essays (I believe there are about 40 per class) BUT.. I really feel I know my stuff due to all those essays.

I think it is great that you also have the option of moving to Nevada! Good luck! Oh... Rio Salado college has classes that start every 2 weeks.. but it is expensive.

I did it all backwards too! I have 3 kids, I was working and going to school, then it came time for me to make a decision about making some major sacrifices. I chose to quit my job and gave up A LOT of luxuries in life, but its been worth it, I start the nursing program in January 2008.

If your mom is open to you moving to Nevada, go for it! A few years of sacrifice is nothing when you have a lot of years ahead of you!

Good Luck:monkeydance:

Oh, there are a lot of us who have done this backwards!!! Myself included!!! Got married, had a baby and decided I wanted something more out of my professional life. Well, I started before having my daughter, but I will tell you it can be done. If this is what you really want, find a way to make it happen.

I assume you are a single mom from your post. You are the only one who can decide how to make this work if you really want to! Weigh you options and make your decision from there!!! Best of luck to you!!!

I sure did things backwards! Had my daughter Sr year high school, got married, had another, worked 10 years. Now I'm ready to start NS in Jan. I've wanted to be an RN for a long time but there was always something in the way. I worked full time when I started my pre-reqs. I tried to take 1 pre-req (needed A for program entrance) along with 1 co-req (just have to pass!). That way I only had 1 class that needed mega attention and work. I switched to PRN once I got into the more difficult classes, like Mircrobiology and Advanced Human Physiology. I'm going to try not working during the RN program because it'll be hard enough (full time, tons of studying) without me working on my Sat and Sun. Of course, if they shut of my H2O and electricity, I guess I'll be working weekends again!

Boy do I know about being backwards. I was married at 16yrs old at 4months pregnant with my oldest daughter, she now will be 16 yrs old soon herself. I have 2 other children 9yrs & 8yrs, and decided to go back to college. I'm now waiting to attend nursing school which will start really soon, Jan 14,2008. I'm very excited and its been a long long long hard road, with alot of tears, but I'm here! yay. You can do it too. Go have your mother help, since she wants to help, wonderful!! You will be surprised how much easier it will go with a steady babysitter too. Best wishes, keep us posted.

:monkeydance:Looks like alot of us know how you feel. I got married and had kids very young. I have three girls all under four years old. I go to school only because I cant afford four hundred dollars a week for daycare. Cant even tell you what Im going to do when NS starts. Oh ya and I just moved away from my parents and I gotta tell ya, if you can move to Nevada then I would seriously consider it because that will take such a load off. Especially when you are doing crazy hours for clinical rotations. Keep your head up and be positive, things always tend to work themselves out.

Thank you all!!

I really needed to hear it from someone else and I think that we'll be moving to Nevada. ;) I'm just wasting time if I stay were I'm at. Thank you again!! and I'll keep you posted!!

Reading the OP and a lot of the replies on here, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's doing things backwards! :lol2: I got married young and have two children but three years ago, decided I want to go into nursing. I've been working as a clerk/secretary for almost 10 years, and at the same time, been going to a cc part-time. I'm in my last semester of prerequisites. It's not easy, and I need to wait until my DH finishes school and finds a job so I can quit mine to go to NS full time. It's doable, and if my husband weren't around, I too would move in with my parents so I could go to school full-time. If you have that opportunity to do so, then go for it! There will be sacrifices made, but in the end, it'll all be worth it. Don't give up your dreams! Good luck!

By all means move!! ;) I'm a part-time student this semester, going full time next semester, a SAHM to a 9 month-old boy, and married. Never had this kind of plan for myself, I had always planned to do it the right way. But I can't change anything, I just look to the future and think about how my life will be once I get school out the way. Yet, I can not tell you how much my mother has helped me since I've been in school. She watches my son while I go to school at night, and anytime I need to study she is ready and willing to spend time with her grandson. Due to my family's support I've managed to be making A's in both my A&P class and my Health Professions Skills class. Not only is it blessing for you to have someone you know loves your kids watching them, but it is also a blessing to know that you have someone giving you support to keep on trucking. I think it would be a smart and wise idea to move to Nevada, having your mother around will impact your life in ways you can't imagine. I say go for it, and let us know how it goes!
