Is there anyone out there in the allnurse readership with an interest in getting into stand up comedy? I hope so!!
I've been thinking lately that stand up would be a Marvelous Venue for getting the word out about what life in the nursing trenches is really like. Last Comic Standing is calling your name! The postings on this list are FULL of humerous antecdote ideas.
My suggestions for material include:
Before and after on how nurses dress/appear (before = neatly attired in all white, after = something the cat dragged in, just got out of bed look in baggy, wrinkled scrubs with wild hair, strange shoes, and a couple of tattoos).
Call bell/intercom conversations: you need WHAT??, you want it WHEN??
Patient expectations: the unit looks like an upscale hotel, so why can't I get a backrub/massage, an expresso, higher-count sheets, . . . .
You get the idea! You can be the next Rosanne Barr!! Identify yourself and the rest of us will support you!

We used to have an administrator here who was involved in Too Live Nurse. You might google that - he was hilarious!

I am a stand up. I certainly hope I am nothing like Rosanne Barr. Of course...I am a guy.

That would be a great idea! I do think that some of the days of the life of a nurse can equate to a reality show gone bad.

Heck, I've always thought there should be a sitcom or a TV drama devoted to nursing. Lord knows we have enough shows out there about DOCTORS.
How about a show called .... Nurse.
You could get some great stars to play the roles. I think it could be awesome. It could also reflect many things: the demands people place on health care providers -- the healthcare crisis in general -- I mean, we nurses are at the center of it all.
But I do think a reality take on it would be best. Maybe.

As a stand up comic, I suggest writing comedy sketches and post them. When I finish paramedic classes in August I can devote time to fixing them up and getting some of the hundreds of actors in NY to act them out on a stage.

I like Rosanne Barr... she definately was not a talk show host but she even gave that a shot! Can't say she did not try! I definately admire her for that! Hope you can be at least half as funny as she is!

I'm an actress-turned-nurse, with a talent for improv/sketch comedy, who looks nothing like Rosanne Barr. Count me IN baby!
well have a sketch group yet!
