Stand Up Comedy about Nursing

Published

Is there anyone out there in the allnurse readership with an interest in getting into stand up comedy? I hope so!!

I've been thinking lately that stand up would be a Marvelous Venue for getting the word out about what life in the nursing trenches is really like. Last Comic Standing is calling your name! The postings on this list are FULL of humerous antecdote ideas.

My suggestions for material include:

Before and after on how nurses dress/appear (before = neatly attired in all white, after = something the cat dragged in, just got out of bed look in baggy, wrinkled scrubs with wild hair, strange shoes, and a couple of tattoos).

Call bell/intercom conversations: you need WHAT??, you want it WHEN??

Patient expectations: the unit looks like an upscale hotel, so why can't I get a backrub/massage, an expresso, higher-count sheets, . . . .

You get the idea! You can be the next Rosanne Barr!! Identify yourself and the rest of us will support you!

I think this is a great idea, and you have all my support...!

I'm not really funny and get told I take life too serious too often, but I do have a great sense of sarcasm. ;)

Let me know if you build up a group, so I can watch it! After all, laughter is the best medicin. ;)

This is a great idea! I just worked this weekend on a bone marrow transplant floor and it was more sad than usual... and it's often pretty dismal. (Still thinking about the post-doc fellow at 28 he's just diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma of the pharangeal area. How bloody rare is that? The guy's brilliant and he's dying.):bluecry1:

How about one of the forums (that's still going on I think) of funny things said in a hospital that if were said on the street would get you in trouble.

Ex: "Now spread those legs and let me pop this right in!" "So how loose were your stools, like gravy or more formed like squash?"

You get the idea! I'll be following this, it should be great! I'm not funny but will enjoy hearing from those of you who are!
