Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Everyone, Hello,

This thread is created for anyone who is applying for a 2011 Nursing School Program! We can await our fates together. I think that waiting is going to be the hardest part! I am applying to a Community College for an ADN RN program. Applications are due Sept. 20th and we should know by early Novemeber!! My school just told me that they may also consider a math class that I took (with a higher grade) over College Algebra, which would significantly raise my GPA! I am hopeful!! Where is everyone else applying and when will you potentially find out?!

I just started my prereqs last fall of 09 and I cannot believe I get to reply to a thread like this already!! :yeah:I am a spring 2011 hopeful and I will be applying to a local hospital for the ADN program. I have to have all of my transcripts and applications in by Sept. 1st and I will find out if I am accepted on Sept. 15th. For the past year I have been working on my prereqs so I can apply at my community college, but then I found out this hospital based program accepts students twice a year, so I thought I would go for it. Best of all, all of my prereqs will transfer!

Thanks NOEL22 I know it seems close but from where I'm sitting its taking forever lol! Good luck to you and everyone I hope we all make it! (then we'll be asking questions to each other under the nursing student section:)

Hi everyone! I'm also a Spring 2011 hopeful. I am actually going for my second time around. Got in in 2008 and failed my first semester by 3 points (lots of personal problems, stress, etc.) Took some time off to see if I wanted to continue and recently decided to go back. My kids are older and I have less stress, I know I can do it this time.

Unfortunetly I have to reapply from the beginning. My school (JJC in illinois) has the application opening Aug 1st-15th. After that I have to take Teas again because they switched to Teas V. I have already found out that they do not hold failing against me so I have just as much of a chance this time as I did the first time. I got in the first try last time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll be able to do it again.

Good luck to everyone. I won't find out until Oct. The wait is going to drive me crazy:bugeyes:

Hello!!! After being rejected this summer for an Aug start at Pasco-Hernando CC (in FL), I am retaking PSY to get an A and applying in Aug for a Jan 2011 start. Cutoff is Sept 15th and we should know by early to mid October. I am thinking about doing Hillsborough CC but they are a madhouse and I feel like I am in a rat race maze trying to get direct people or ANSWERS out of anyone.

I really hope I get in this time because I'm not sure how long my family (and my ego) can afford rejection. But after taking pre and co reqs for the last 4 semesters, I am actually really looking forward to having a semester off. I will still work at the hospital at night but both of my kids will be in school so I will have a few hours each morning! Yay!!!!

GL to everyone who is applying!!

What is the likelihood that schools will do this? I am applying to the ABSN program at FAU and I am nervous about my cumulative GPA. I had a rough first year of college, and ended up with just over a 3.0 overall. I transferred and got serious about school and ended up with a 3.9 in my last 60+ hours at FAU. Assuming I complete my remaining pre-reqs with A's, I'll only have a 3.55 pre-req GPA. I know it isn't bad, I just want it to be higher to make me a more competitive candidate.

In my first year of school I took College Algebra and ended up with a C. I am taking Calculus this semester and an A to take the place of the C in College Algebra would bump my pre-reqs up to a 3.7. Has anyone else heard of this being done?

My school does that. they require college algebra or above and they will take whatever your higher grade is. Just make sure you highlight it on your transcripts when u send them in

I'm a fall 2011 hopeful. I have 22 hrs. to take and I will apply to a BSN program. I wish everyone the best of luck in getting accepted into the program you have applied for.:)

Hello Guys, i am also a 2011 hopefull, i am applying after summer school, deadline is september 15th, first time applying, i still have some classes to complete, but we only need 16 of the science credits to apply... I have thought about this for a while and i was nervous, but the more it approaches the calmer i get. There really is nothing more i can do...

Fleur--I think we will be finding out around the same time!! I will be a nervous wreck until that point :( I know in the long run it is not that far off--but when your waiting it feels like it is a lifetime!!! I hope that this will be a good October!! GL to you too!!

IluvPatho--I agree, I really can't wait to be able to ask questions and get information on the General Student Nursing Boards :) I am hoping we really both get in to our programs!!

Amcconaghy- I am not sure how your school calculates GPA for admittance? Is it pre-reqs only or all undergraduate coursework?? Usually (not all the time) schools that require only pre-req GPA's for admission will take the highest grade of math you have completed that is required for admissions for the program. For instance my school give you the option of 1 of the 4 math classes, and if you have taken 2 of the options, then they take the highest academic Grade from the math classes. This is also a ADN program, so I am not sure how a BSN program works. All the BSN programs I have looked into, take your total GPA (not pre-req). Which is why I had to opt for a ADN program--because like you I did not do as well in my previous college years! I would defiently call the school though and find out. Because a 3.55 and a 3.7 are very different and it could make a world of difference in the admissions process!! Good Luck please keep us updated on everything!! Good Luck :) ;)

Good luck to everyone applying, this is the hardest part I think, WAITING. I know though, whatever the answer is I have you guys for support!! Hopefully we will ALL GET IN!! I think we will!

After talking to my Academic Advisor today, I will be applying for the summer or spring of 2011. After completing the rest of my prereqs, I will have close to a 3.2 GPA. I'm in a traditional program that requires a 3.0. My advisor informed me that I needed to apply for the summer or spring semester, b/c the fall is more competitive. They take students with a 3.0 and there are a few with 2.9 GPA's that gets called if someone that is accepted opts out of the program. The catalog states that you have to have a 2.5 GPA, but the lowest they accept into the program is a 2.9.

Now I have to make a decision on summer or spring. I would like to start in the summer.:coollook:

Wow, I hope we all get to where we want to be. The waiting is the worst, it puts doubts in my mind. Last fall semester I had a guy in my class who had gotten in for the winter and said the first time he applied he had a 3.8 gpa and didn't get accepted and had to apply again. So I always think about that and feel like theres no hope :crying2: But I have also heard many other stories so who really knows? I guess time will tell...
