Speaking of Vaccines...

How many students at your school are totally unimmunized? We have ONE. A Kindergarten kid. Russian family who is very much into "alternative" therapies. Poor kid had a horrible ear infection back in December and was sobbing and holding his ears. Had a temp of 101. Called mom to come get him and long story short, she never brought him to the doctor and used some crazy drops. Perfd TMs a few days later. Just happened again last week. I seriously have zero patience for ignorant people.

Out of 1500 students I have THREE students at my elementary school who has never received a single vaccine and 14 that are only partially vaccinated. At my middle school I have TWO students who have received no vaccines at all and 17 who are only partially vaccinated.

I live in Minnesota where you only have to have your C.O. form notarized in order to get out of being fully vaccinated. But I'll bet the parents of the 30 kids who aren't immunized against measles will be the first ones to complain when we exclude their kids for 21 days should the current measles outbreak spread to our district.

Out of 840 Elementary students, I have one Medical Exemption and 24 Reasons of Consciousness Exemptions. The number grows every year :-(

IL does not accept this as a reason to exempt.

Out of 650, I have 2 families that don't vaccinate, together they make 7 kids. Both signed religious exemption although I don't really believe it, we don't require any sort of proof.

I have 6 that are non-compliant (all Hep. B's that were given a week or two too soon:sarcastic:) and two with religious exemptions in my school of almost 500.

School District of 1160 and we have approx 12 religious exempts. 2nd varicella must be on board before starting kindergarten.

We have a bigger issue with the 6th graders not getting their Tdap before starting 7th grade. I have a Tdap clinic scheduled for the 15th, but we will still have kiddos not receive it prior to starting next year. They get to stay home until we have proof. That usually lights a fire under the guardians!

We only have a couple with no immunizations. Chiropractors kids. Have a handful that refuse to get the MMR. Because it "causes autism" Starting this year in my state they seen a second meningitis to start 12th grade. That should be challenging.

Out of 700 we have one student with no immunizations (religious exemption--no religions that I know of forbid it though). There are 2 (immigrants) on catch-up schedules, but have been excellent at getting what they need on time.

I had one family that was a "religious exemption". I really don't know what religion they supposedly were, but it was just crazy, I couldn't even give her kid a band aid if they needed it, she would be mad. I had to call her about every little thing. Poor kids, it was so sad, they would get sick and NOTHING would heal them, even whatever hocus pocus she used at home. thankfully, they left, and I really think they were just running from some one or something, very odd.

Otherwise, I have only a few that are not fully immunized and that is because they were not born in this country..

I worked in a pre-natal clinic for a while and one of our patients was a Jehova's Witness. She wrote this long letter detailing that she wanted NO medical intervention AT ALL at the delivery of her baby. No IV, no pre natal testing, no pre natal vitamins, NOTHING. At 36 weeks patients are pre-registered for admission and they had to sign all the consent forms to have on file, including anesthesia, surgery, IV, etc. She refused all of them. The midwives explained to her that of course they were hoping for an uncomplicated lady partsl delivery, but that of course anything can happen and she was essentially refusing life-saving measures should an emergency arise. She still refused. Wouldn't you know it, she ended up with a shoulder dystocia and booth her and the baby almost died. In the last second she authorized and emergency c/s and the baby was saved. Really crappy APGARS initially but recovered. She hemmorhaged and then needed a blood transfusion (another big no no apparently) in order to save her life. She authorized that as well. Funny how when you suddenly realize that your beliefs are about to kill the life of both you and your unborn child you finally come to your senses.

That's annoying because the parents feel like they already went through the trouble of getting the vaccine and it isn't their fault they were given at the wrong interval.

My twins will need to have a 4th Hep B before 6th grade because the third was given too early. I wouldn't have known except I looked up their immunizations for camp this summer and saw that they had been flagged in the school system.

Out of my small school of 225 (prek-k), about 10 are "religious objections." I have 7 or 8 in my other school of 575 (gr.1-5).

Out of 315 K-8 kids, I have one 1st grader who has no immunizations and is allowed no meds, no treatments, nada. It's funny because he's one of my heaviest hitters in the clinic. But he's happy with ice pack therapy 99.9% of the time.

I have about 3 other kids who are slow or selective vaxxers.
