another nurse i know mentioned one of her nurse friends in another facility had a rash on her face and , since it was the days of open med carts, grabbed what she thought was a tube of a and d ointment and proceeded to rub it on her face...trouble was this pint sized nurse had inadvertantly grabbed a tube of nitropaste and while talking to her friends at the desk, obviously didn't notice and was immediately passed out in front of all of them...she was fine, but i can imagine there are more such nurse stories out there...care to share????

a former co-worker of mine squirted insulkin in her eye and ended up in the er when her blood sugar bottomed out.....excuse any typos-thrthe cat is sitting right in front of the screen....

A co-worker accidentally squired herself in the eye with Demerol--didn't do a whole lot--except she was especially cheery that day????Hmmmm?? I got myself in the eye with Lasix---but I can't say as I had an increased output!:p

A couple of weeks ago hubby put earwax drops in his eye instead of glaucoma drops. Ophthal. said he sees that all the time, but it scared the heck out of me.

Is that two stories in one????

One of the best I heard goes back many years. Psyche facility in the days of oral Largactil syrup. Male nurse sick and tired of seeing rubbish left on the desk including uneaten cake and this medicine cup of Largactil syrup. In a fit of why don't you clean up your own mess poured one over the other and then got called away. Came back to the desk to see empty plate and colleague with a dreamy look on her face.

This is what happened to a resident one time. She had many tubes of creams and ointments. One of the health care aides was giving her care and grabbed what she thought was A7D ointment for her groins. Turned out to be A535. When my co-worker realized what she did, she said to the resident (who was a RN) " Oh, Mrs. W, I just rubbed A535 on your snatch. I'll bet that'll be the hottest snatch you've had in awhile". The resident laughed until she cried. Lucky for my co-worker.

Decades ago on another coast, we had an ETOHer going ballistic. It was July (of course) and the brand new resident hadn't prescribed enough Librium. About the time the patient was about to smash the window with the bedside table so he could get a nice breeze in his room, the resident prescribed IM Librium. By this time, I was a tad bit fed up, both with the patient and with the resident. I testily informed her that that was a brilliant order which should have been written BEFORE he went ballistic and that none of the nursing staff really wanted to take our lives in our hands to get close enough to GIVE it.

The resident said she'd give the IM Librium if we'd (the nursing staff) hold the patient. After protracted discussion and debate (the details of which are sketchy after all this time) we agreed the the nursing staff (RN, LPN and NA) would tackle the patient and hold him down while the MD injected the drug. Bill, the muscular LPN and Princess, the 250 or so pound "NA of size" and I (then young and skinny) tackled the patient and the MD swabbed an arm and injected the Librium -- into BILL!

The patient was so shocked he willingly submitted to a Librium injection by the chastened resident. Bill slept the rest of the shift away in the break room. And Princess and I worked our asses off for the rest of the shift, extremely short staffed. The nursing supervisor, reading the incident report, laughed until she peed her pants although my nurse manager took a far dimmer view of things the next morning!

I had the misfortune of getting some Norepinephrine in my eye while drawing up an infusion. Immediately I felt my blood pressure shoot right up and my head started pounding. I spent an hour or so sitting in the team room feeling like I was going to pass out and ended up going to the emergency eye department to have my eye washed out after being advised that Norepinephrine is cytotoxic! Now I always wear goggles to draw up any infusions as I never want to experience that again.

I was thinking "poor Bill", except for the fact that, REALLY, I could USE a good sleep! I would especially appreciate it if I was on duty!

Ruby Vee.........:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Hilariously funny! Thanks for the laugh! :chuckle

This is kind of a different vein but......picture this.....busy ED, can't find 2 nurses who are supposed to be on duty......we open door to closed room to see one nurse doing an I+O cath on the other. Yes they were both female.
