Socks & clogs??? - Help!!

Published

Hello everyone,

I am a sophomore in college and I am about to start my first clinical rotation. Just recently I purchased a pair of clogs and I need some help with what type of socks nurses typically wear with their clogs. Do nurses wear just regular ankle socks or mid calf type socks to prevent your socks sliding down your feet during your day. My clinical is 7-3 and I want to make sure that i don't go into my clinical and be uncomfortable during my whole day.

Also has anyone purchased the unisex clogs from allheart? Are they comfortable? I did read the reviews before purchasing and people do seem to love them but I do want some more opinions. With my boyfriend leaving for the marines in 2 weeks and the amount of work I had during the semester I did not work. Nor, did I work this winter break because I wanted to spend time with my boyfriend before he does ship to basic training. Because of my lack of money at the moment, I went with my cheaper option (instead of danskos). I do plan on purchasing danskos at some point, but right now as a 19 year old college student who is out of work it was not the best option for me right now.

I am open to any help, I am so desperate!!! Also, any help/information is greatly appreicated :)

Thank you in advance, happy new year!!!!

I just wear knee highs. I buy funky patterned socks.

The shoe is more important than the socks. You must get a good pair that allows you to stay on your feet and moving.I only will wear a brand called Klogs. You can often get a cheap pair on Amazon if it a style they no longer make.I hope you are not stuck with white only .I can stay on my feet endlessly with the Klogs so they are worth every penny

Sadly I am stuck with white only:( but thank you! I agree the shoe is more important than the socks. I just hate when you wear a shoe and your sock slides down you feet, so frustrating! lol

A nursing school that requires students to wear clogs instead of sturdy shoes or sneakers? Strange. Places I've worked have sometimes not allowed nurses to wear clogs at all because of risk of injury. Hate to ask if you are sure of this, but are you 100% sure that you were told you must wear clogs not sneakers, and not the other way around?

Thank you!!! :) I think I would also prefer sneakers as well but my school does not allow it sadly.

This a bit off topic, but your school doesn't allow 'regular' shoes? They have to be clogs?

I hated Danskos. Got plantar fasciitis in short order. I do love Bocs. They look like Danskos on the outside, but actually have some cushioning in the insole. (Danskos felt like I was wearing shoe boxes for shoes.) Bocs are also cheaper.

For med-surg I went with New Balance and custom fit insoles. But if you have to have clogs, look into Bocs.

One hospital I worked at did not allow clogs. The claimed they were unsafe, especially if you are running to a code or something. Wear something that won't come off or roll your ankle. I have Dansko's, but mine aren't clogs, they are a full shoe. I also wear a lot of Sketchers that don't have shoe-strings to come untied. That drives me crazy.

I love my Danskos. As far as socks -- smart wool in the splashiest colors and patterns I can find.

Good luck with your clogs... I've never been able to tolerate them for any length of time. I swear by my Alegrias, but they're a bit pricey so I try to catch them when they go on sale. Compression socks are great. When you're choosing socks - just use the same criteria you'd choose for other athletic activities. Bedside nursing is a marathon for sure.

Alegrias as all the way, might have 10 pair.....but as HouTx says, look for sales at their web site

I thought I liked my danskos, but now they just sit in my units locker room until I have a task I need them for (typically a tap water enema). I much prefer to wear my favorite sneakers. I just replaced my sneakers with a new pair and I was able to get them for 1/2 price at the outlets I pass. I'm frequently running to bed/chair alarm and when the tele is alarming a bad rhythm and I def. can't run in danskos.

I wear a nice pair of socks, but not compression. I tried compression and they irritated my legs- seam rubbed my toes and they were too long for me since I'm quite short. I'm curious as to what compression stocking brands people like. I keep seeing ads on FB for a brand and I wonder if people really do like them.

I have never heard of a nursing program that didn't allow sneakers but allowed clogs. Seems kinda backwards.
