Social media sucks.
Seems like many people on the nursing forums(not all) hate nursing. Yet when I visit a real hospital with real nurses they seem to love their jobs and tell me they enjoy it.
Why is social media different than the real world? They tell me LPN is in demand and still good to get a job. In social media you here..."you will never find a job as an LPN!"
Are those nurses in hospitals lying? ANY career will be bashed on social media and it sucks.
I want to give social media the SMACK DOWN because its mostly lies and deception of what really goes on in the real world. There are just crummy, trashy, negative people that come in the forums to spew venom because they are unhappy people......they will trash any job.

I don't know how you present yourself when you talk to working nurses but I would never bad mouth or "trash" nursing to a patient or visitor while I am in my role as an employee of my hospital.
I give far more honest answers here where I don't represent my employer.
Some people really like their jobs but don't get asked about it much. Here is a pretty positive thread about nurses who like their jobs.

I can only say pick the best path that is right for you; however:
There are plenty that love their careers, some that don't; if you are looking for the "lovey" posts, use the link that was provided to you and check out the Nurse's Rock forum.
Some people may hide behind their computer screens, however, being around this forum since 2004 and with several hiatuses, most posters are who they are, because, most find this as a sounding board to vent, exchange ideas, and have healthy debate; for some posters, this is their haven.
You speak about people being trolls; well, based on your posting history you can be described as the same-I would pause on whether people are those or not-granted, your frustration is palpable through your posts.
I will leave it at this-make sure you decision to enter this field is based on logic and the best advantage for you. This profession is not for everybody, that's one thing I will say to anyone entering this business-it is hard work, physically and mentally, but once you find your niche, there can be enjoyment in this business-especially when you know how to play the game and maximize and be empowered in your nursing practice.
Best Wishes.
JustBeachyNurse-Have you done your research? I have.
A friend of mine just became a LPN in Florida...and he said there were plenty of LPN jobs in Tampa, Orlando, and Miami.
I'm iOhio and I see many LPN jobs in Columbus(hospitals and nursing homes). I know of several LPN's working in Phoenix and they never complained about finding work. Chicago has a plethora of LPN jobs too. Joliet area as well.
That is four states. That means before you generalize -- back it up with some data. This is why social media sucks. Too many generalizations and BS.
As far as I have seen Louisiana is taking LPNs out of acute care.
The area I'm in, in Texas some hospitals still do hire LVNs but not as much. Some hospitals only hire RNs & stopped hiring LVNs all together.
If someone was looking to get into nursing I would advise them to become an RN because there are many more RN positions than LVN.
My mother is going for her master's & doesn't make a lot so she is getting a loan. If you really want to become a nurse & don't have $30,000+ in your back pocket then talk to the financial aid department. You might get scholarships or grants, you'll never know unless you fill out the FAFSA.
So ignore and move on. Why are you here to drone on about something you've made your mind up about?
The posts on AN that run along the lines of "LPN'S being phased out" and "I'm an LPN and I don't want to work in LTC, now what?", out number the likes of yours probably 100 to one. THAT is fact and data.

Just sayin' - Social media reflects the individual's reality. It may not be mine or yours, but it's his/hers. Logging on to social media is a voluntary entertainment activity. If you are looking for facts or evidence, it unlikely to be found on Social Media.
I'm here because I wanted the truth!!I come here to be nice and honest and ask innocent questions. Yet I see posts that saying "Nursing sucks! " "Don't do it!" " You will be a whipping boy!" You will hate nursing!" "There are no jobs!" "Stay away!" "Everyone will think your gay if you are a murse"
WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? Are these white trash trailer parks residents? I am cautious now who I receive information from on here because everyone hides behind their computers. They could be trolls. I will just visit more hospitals and nursing homes since I can talk to people face to face.
....are you high?

Forgive me, but in your other posts you claim to have a bachelors degree. You're a high school teacher, but don't want to do the Accelerated BSN, d/t lack of science and math. My mother was a high school teacher, much older than you and she have to have all of the required science and math to be a teacher. The SAME science and math classes I have taken to be a nurse.
Secondly, I put in over 33 applications before I got my first interview when I graduated with my LPN degree. Yes, there are jobs out there for LPN's but you gotta dig deep.
