I am feeling so low today. Trouble on the job, boss soooo . Thinking I will just get out of Nursing altogether - if I ever regain the energy to figure out what else to do, LOL. Ever had this happen to you? How do you handle bosses who are so unfair, so cruel?

I'm not even a nursing student yet (working on the prereqs), but I know the demand for nurses provides some flexibility. If you love nurses and have issues with your boss, how about a different facility or a different type of nursing?

Hang in there and try to keep your perspective. These things can fill up your whole world sometimes, and it's hard to remeber that there are other, nicer things in your world too.

For me, job satisfaction is largely related to who I work with. I make computer wafers now and I've always sought out good teams rather than fun jobs when making a transition. This is what I indend to do as a nurse too.

Personally, I don't think I could handle an unfair and cruel boss. I think you should muster up the energy and deal with your feet. Sometimes you got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away and know when to run.

I'm a firm believer in direct confrontation. There's a time to confront and a time to surrender. Unfair and cruel people aren't worth my time and engery and I would just quit.

Just my two cents.

So sorry you are feeling this way, I came verrrry close to leaving nursing just a few months ago, I have since changed jobs, feel much better, not as stressed and my co-workers are awesome. Follow your heart. I will be thinking about you.

Get that newspaper and see who else needs your services. There is no need to work in a toxic environment. The very act of looking around will help you see that there are so many other places that you could fit in. Being depressed about your job is bad for your health, Trudy. You have to take care of you. Leave the nastiness behind. Meanwhile, feel free to vent about what is going on there if you need to.

Thanks for all the understanding and encouragement, guys! I have thought about leaving but really am trying to hang in and get that pension. I'm really close to achieving it. I am trying to figure out whether to reply or not to the ridiculous allegations leveled against me and what to say if I do. I fear making it worse but I should probably reply in some way, no matter what.

Wish I had the gumption to just go to work for myself and be my own boss. I have that in my blood, I think, and have long wanted to do it but am scared and tired. Still, I want to try to bestir myself and just do it!!

Oh, I got some new clothes for interviews and am going for a manicure and got the old resume dusted off. Just in case.

Not sure just what to try, business-wise, but am going to talk to the coaches at the Small Bus Administration next week. Wish me luck and I'll let you know what happens.

Good luck to you. I don't know why some people are just so damn foul. Sometimes, these toxic folks resent the people who have many years in and make more $/hour. Sometimes it is a greedy short sighted administration higher up. I am 41. I used to hear "older" nurses say this when I was 20 something and I used to think no way...but now that I am getting to be "older" myself and I have seen more of the world, I agree. You deserve that retirement $ the facility owes you. Go to another unit in the facility if you need to escape this nasty boss, but you do deserve your pension. Consult an attorney if needed. I wish you all of the best.

Hey, I don't know if this helps or not, but I saw your age at 61...did it every occur to you the hospital is TRYING to get you to quit?

Age discrimination is ALIVE in this country. I would wager you are probably at the higher end of their salary scale if you have been there for a long time.

That happened with my mom. The last 5 years that she worked, they scheduled her for every holiday they could and never gave her a raise, tried to trash her reviews (but she was a better record keeper than they were, so that never got very far), and every other way they could think of to abuse her. They also gave her a hard time b/c she was having some problems with her heart, but was still able to perform. She just wasn't the "tough dog" she used to be.

There was no way she was going to let them win and have her pension and SS reduced.

Her retaliation? She realized she had over 400 sick days left, so whenever they scheduled her for a day she didn't want to work, she just called in, and didn't even care to do it. She had EARNED those days (think about how many years you have to go and not use your sick days to have that many, so that took care of her guilt factor).

You are in a legally protected class, so they would have a very difficult time firing you.

Hold out, put your foot down girl and don't let them win!
