So how/what do people react when you tell them you're a student nurse?

i just wonder what other people who are not nurses or not in the medical field think of student nurses. Any of you got different reactions? please share!

Why don't you be a doctor? This is how they react.

"Just a nurse?" Followed by me smacking them in the face for saying that

I cant believe it, so many people asking me for medical advice! I tell them I know nothing, go see a doctor! Lol I even had a friend text me a photo of his foot injury, and asked if I thought it was infected. I look foward to a day that I can actually be helpful :)

@ sncmata: WOW! When I read your post I could not believe the reponse you got from your family. I am so sorry to hear that . That is awful. Don't listen to that garbage...sorry to be so harsh because I don't know you & I am not trying to judge your sister or family, but sounds like they are jealous that you are intelligent & caring enough to be a nurse. Plus, the money is not bad either ! The majority of my family is extremely proud of me and helpful, but I have a few who are completely clueless.... such as the ones who think that money grows on trees & never offers help even when I have cried to them that I couldn't go to school because I didn't have the money. (They have plenty of money too). All they said was " Good luck." Can you believe that ? This was one of my grandparents BTW and I was furious and have little to do with them now. There's also those in my family who wonder why I don't work while in nursung school & are very pushy about it. IMO, if someone has never done something, don't judge. So, just wanted to give some reactions I get...

Depends... I get comments such as

"GREAT choice of career!"

to

"Nursing? Why nursing? You want to wash people's bums the rest of your life."

My reply would always be "Thank you" or a shrug. I don't need to defend anything.

Hmm... I suppose the one I get most often from people that know me is, "Why don't you want to be a doctor? You're smart enough to get into medical school..."

That bugs me more than I can say. Yes, I could have gone to medical school, but I want to do direct patient care and provide the compassion, caring, and long-term care that a nurse provides. I love nursing and I know that I'd be unhappy as a doctor. Do you guys seem to get this comment a lot? I never know what to say either, because I feel it's a pretty disrespectful comment...
