my best friend who is also a nurse and I are having a silly little disagreement about something.
Just thought we'd settle it here, lol.
Say you are a brand new nurse, on a brand new psych (or any) unit.
On your first day, would it or would it not be considered weird to come walking onto the
unit bearing gifts, in the form of food goodies for your new co-workers?
The loser (my friend or I) has to make a batch of baked goodies for the other.....
so please give your professional opinion.

I don't think there is a wrong answer here so why don't you go out for coffee dutch treat? Congrats on your new job. :)

Like that screenname. Can't help but think there is someone somewhere with the name in reverse. LOL
Anyway, I think nowhere would a gift of cookies be more appreciated than a psych hospital. It might break some of the tension because I don't think people think to do that stuff for themselves anymore. I hope you win!

If you came in my hospital (psych) on your first day with baked goods, we would just adore you!! How thoughtful that would be, and how nice.....once you start working you probably won't have the time to bake anything, so it would be a wonderful gesture for your first day !!
Please come work with us....
I don't think anyone in psych would disagree with me....

I would think it was a little strange, but it definitely wouldn't be unappreciated. I would probably leave it at a tray of cookies or something. I wouldn't go all out. Just my .

I think it's a great idea, but I wouldn't do it either. Suggest you not do anything that would make you stand out, and possibly make you a target. Been burned too many times.

I think if you want to do it, do it. Lots of people will appreciate the gesture! I surely would!

If that is the kind f person you are (giving), then do it! I am sure the gift will be appreciated.
I am a new nurse and I just started my career as a psych nurse on Oct 13th. I was welcomed by great nurses that have made me feel at home.
Good luck

WOW how sad that we've arrived to the point in our world where we have to worry that a nice gesture would be considered weird or unappreciated.
If it's something you want to do, do it. It's just cookies and pound cake.

I is so hard to say... The one psych place I worked the people were weird... I dont think it would have gone over well. The last hospital I worked for (med/surg) I think it would have gone over just great. The nurses/aids there love people who bring food. :nuke:
a new nurse from another unit brought me a cinnimon flavored coffee just to introduce herself....I really needed that coffee, too...and will remember her name and the nice gesture, for sure....
I think it is a great idea....why question kindness and thoughfulness from one of our own??????
