my best friend who is also a nurse and I are having a silly little disagreement about something.
Just thought we'd settle it here, lol.
Say you are a brand new nurse, on a brand new psych (or any) unit.
On your first day, would it or would it not be considered weird to come walking onto the
unit bearing gifts, in the form of food goodies for your new co-workers?
The loser (my friend or I) has to make a batch of baked goodies for the other.....
so please give your professional opinion.
one of the problems with psych nursing is that an act of kindness must always be considered in terms of boundaries, there would be no problem bringing cookies to a med surg unit or an ortho unit are we really so different that we can't just accept cookies without overthinking it ? go for it !
Gotta go with the majority. I wouldn't think of it honestly when I was new--but I agree that food is appreciated any day --be it your first or last or anything in between! I am in psych ER so it's a little different then the inpatient setting and people bring in food all the time. I agree that if it is you to do something like that then do it! Be yourself. Course it would be nice if the staff were the ones bringing things in as a welcome to you--the new nurse! LOL but the chances of that are slim! It will be appreciated though so do it if you feel like it.
