Hollleeeeeeeeeeeeeeey....whattt?

I would literally freeze my hiney off.

Us GA peeps don't know what that even feels like. I would die. It was 23 yesterday and I had to empty the pool basket. Yep, we don't even bother covering our pool in the winter. After dipping my hand in the pool water I thought my lower arm might freeze off. At 23 degree for about 1 minute in the air.

Yes, I'm a weenie.

And I just love a snow day...or 5.

We rarely get them down here and we adore them. I don't think we have them built in because we don't expect them but we find a way to work around them when they happen. When "snowpocalypse" happened 2 years ago in ATL, I think we had 5+ snow days. After the third day the admin found a way for the kids to do some online learning, home learning, and we had zero days to make up. It was awesome!

Of course, an apocalyptic snow for us ATL folks is half an inch of ice with another half an inch of snow on top of that. Panic sets in at that point. Honestly, we can't drive on the stuff.

Buford Callaway describes it better than anyone I know in these parts:

My parents moved down to GA a few years ago and my mom can't believe what her neighbors call "cold." Nothing like a lifetime of winters in the Northeast to toughen you up for a balmy 50 degrees in January down where the peaches grow!

No kids in school anymore and my job as not a school nurse means I get no benefit from snow days, but my school nurse friends hated last year. No real snow days but several "cold" days pushed the end of the school year out by over a week and we live in a district with I think a weeks worth of snow days built into the calendar.

Now for my "back in the day we walked to school in 5 feet of snow, uphill both ways " comment. We really did go to school unless it was a full on blizzard. These cold days are a fairly new development that I happen to agree with. Nobody, especially a child should be out walking or standing around waiting for a bus when the wind chill factors are 40-60 below zero. And yes, we hit a cold spell last winter with actual temps of lower than 30 below. A wind chill of -56 is the coldest I remember offhand. Sadly enough these temps are not quite record breaking for us.

SNOW in Massachusetts is a dirty word. I don't need a snow day. Nope, nope, nope.

You got HAMMERED last year!
