Ya'll don't know how glad I am to see that most of you like or love your jobs.... I am fixing to start my 2nd semester and at the hospital I work at many of the older nurses are like "Get out now" I know there are alot of negative things that occur in the field.. But name me a job that doesn't have bad things.... Not much of a point to this post except to say Thanks for all the positive vibes... :)

nurs2b, like most anything, nursing is REALLY what you make it. be prepared for very emotional times and some very unpleasant coworkers, "clients", and supervisors. but you can make it what you want it to be for you. you are entering at a time when nursing is in a shortage; take advantage of that and use it! *i* entered when my instructors said: "don't expect anyone to throw you any pizza parties or red carpets...jobs are scarce...you will be fighting for regular positions". it was not that long ago; i graduated nursing school in 1997 in oklahoma! nowadays, i am fortunate to pick and choose my situation and am very content. it is exactly what I made of it; pleasurable, rewarding and never boring. good luck to you!:)

I love being a nurse. I admit, it is hard to stay focused sometimes, but in the end the heart prevails. Most nurses who moan and groan about their career choices are most likely those very same people that would moan and groan if they were in the Garden of Eden. Some people are not happy unless they are miserable. So sad....:imbar

so true!

I love being a nurse, and I pray every day to be able to give my best for my patients.

I hate being being employed by sweatshop-mentality management that refuses to pay me for my education and my skills.

Mary, I could've written both of your posts. I am a nurse in a non-traditional nursing job, but I am a nurse, and I love what I do.

i absolutely love being a nurse especially since i get to work in an area i really love

Like everyone before me, there are times that my job is really the pits but most days I am happy that I picked nursing as my career choice. I am now a correctional nurse and if I get tired of working at one facility I just pick up and move to another place. I have almost been Oregon Departmemt of Corrections only Traveling nurse.... but all in all I love my job.

I think that nursing is the kind of job that can't be done unless the person has his/her heart in it.

I love being a nurse, and I pray everyday to be able to give my best for my patients.

My sentiments exactly...

I love - have loved and still love being a nurse

I love nursing

I have loved the experiences that l have had thanks to nursing

I have loved the bedside of nursing that l am at the moment nit able to do very much

I still love being a nurse - like you Mary - l am no longer at the bedside - i coordinate education for a number of staff - this ranges from maintenece to DON etc I may not be useing my practical skills in quite the same way but the skills and the knowledge neveer goes away - what ever job we do in life those skills will be contibuting in some way to that job.

I LOVE BEING A NURSE

Just wanted to say I love my job as well. I've worked in hospital for greater than 13 years and grabbed up all the experience I could get and than started working as casemanager with homecare agency. Mon through Friday 8am 430pm. I love the hours. I also do bedside nursing just the patients is in his own bed is all. My specialty is pediatrics and iv therapy. The best part of nursing is that if you aren't happy their are so many areas you can work. Once you have experience you will have so many open doors.
