Side business ideas for nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have an idea for a side business that I'm considering. I'm shifting to a two day a week job, keeping Per Diem at my old facility, and am also considering starting a side business, using my RN as a credential that would give me credibility.

I'm thinking of buying an 8 passenger van with a wheelchair lift and conducting day trips in the area, concentrating, but not limited to, marketing to the retired demographic. I'm thinking wine tours, microbreweries, antiquing, small mountain tourist areas.

What do you think? It would probably be a one woman operation.

I'd love to hear the allnurses membership share their side business ideas as well!

I know of some nurses who collect and sell vintage clothes online, like on etsy, or sometimes they buy quilts then sell them for a hundred bucks or so...

You do realize that the bakery might be OPEN at 10am, but unless you just plan on hiring minions to do all the work for you, you would actually have to BE there at 3am to start baking all those goodies.

Personally, I don't know any bakers who don't oversee the preparation process-what if you breeze in at 10 and the cookies are all burned and the bread didn't rise??

What?!? You mean I would actually have to work? Isn't that what minions are for?

In my dream world, I'll take Wednesday off to prepare the batter and cookie dough ahead of time. Then the next morning, I'll bake and decorate everything (most likely starting at 4am). I'll try to prepare as much as possible the day before to save time.

The bakery would probably be very small, connected to my house, and I would mostly do specialty cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Maybe wedding or birthday cakes (of course, people would have to order those in advance). Anyway, my side business probably won't be started for 30 years or more, close to when I retire :)

Oh, and I'm thinking each day would have a different specialty thing (like pumpkin spice whoopie pies on Thursday, peanut butter-cheesecake-brownies on Friday)...

Well, yes, that IS what Minions are for, but given the fact that most of us have the type of personality that makes us hate group projects because no one else can do the work as well as we can...there ya go lol.

I was going to say sign me up for your email notifications, but...30 years? *sigh* I probably won't remember my email addy by then 😩

Wasn't there a nursing couple who lost their licenses for that?

Better question is: What would your, ummmm.....screen name be?

Mine is obvious.

The Bad Apple

That happened here in Arizona. The problem was not that they were creating Mediaography, the problem was that they let it be known that they were registered nurses creating Mediaography. When told to stop they continued on to call the BON's bluff. Never call .gov's bluff.

Ah. I thought the problem also was.........

They were soliciting for customers while on the clock for the hospital.

Can you imagine waking out of a coma in the ICU and: "Hi, I'm your nurse, nice to see you're back (winks). Been awhile for you since you been out so here is a good site to go to, and look for (screen name)."

Lol

The trick is to use metaphors and abbreviations.

Not everyone out there can immediately identify what "p4p" stands for. And a nice lady needs 300 "roses" from a kind gentleman.

Do something legal and make cash around $300 to $500 per night.

Go to your local topless or total nude bar and become a "House Mother', They make sure the girls makeup is applied correctly, and get the girls ready for their dance shift. Since the girls are all paid cash to work (tips) they tip the house mother with their tips.

I could do that...

Okay, I'll bite. What is p4p?

(Am I the only one who doesn't know what this is?)

In the context, I'm guessing it means "play for pay".

I was thinking pay for ...mumble mumble...

Pay for mumbles?

I still don't get it. Why "p" for mumbles? And why only the second one is really an "m".

It's like cracking an FBI code. No wonder kids today don't communicate.

I'm getting my Cap'n Crunch decoder ring.

I have a problem with asterisks.

I'd rather mumble than get bleeped.

New Farawyn is trying to behave.
