Side business ideas for nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have an idea for a side business that I'm considering. I'm shifting to a two day a week job, keeping Per Diem at my old facility, and am also considering starting a side business, using my RN as a credential that would give me credibility.

I'm thinking of buying an 8 passenger van with a wheelchair lift and conducting day trips in the area, concentrating, but not limited to, marketing to the retired demographic. I'm thinking wine tours, microbreweries, antiquing, small mountain tourist areas.

What do you think? It would probably be a one woman operation.

I'd love to hear the allnurses membership share their side business ideas as well!

I don't know.... move to the Southwest and do something with turquoise?

I've done some special occasion cakes on the side--all sugar or gelatin except for the florist wire and ribbon in #3 :)

Um.. it is actually my birthday. Can you send one my way? ;)

When I am a nurse, I would like to sell/donate the scarves and many other things I crochet and knit. It's relaxing for me, and I do make some wonderful pieces, if I do say do myself. Anyone need a scarf? ;)

I would love a Scarf!!

I second the massage therapist comment. It seems relaxing to be helping other people relax imo. Plus being an RN, you would have an array of helpful knowledge on the body.

In my area, it's $80+ for an hour long massage. Sounds like good money. ;)

You could also make some sort of product if you're crafty and set up a store on Etsy.

Not exactly nursing related, but becoming an escort would bring in good money.

Do something legal and make cash around $300 to $500 per night.

Go to your local topless or total nude bar and become a "House Mother', They make sure the girls makeup is applied correctly, and get the girls ready for their dance shift. Since the girls are all paid cash to work (tips) they tip the house mother with their tips.

Or camming..

Wasn't there a nursing couple who lost their licenses for that?

Better question is: What would your, ummmm.....screen name be?

Mine is obvious.

The Bad Apple

If I know something for sure is that nursing is a very demanding career so we have to be perfect in what we do! Cause we work with humans! Not cars nor computers so there's no mistakes in our day to day so that's make us very methodic so what ever the idea you have to set up a business I guarantee that it will be a good place to go or a good trip to take, coffee or cake to eat! We are nurses so we can make what ever! I used to had a very lucrative business and I'm planning a second one! So follow your dreams and never give up! Good Luck to everyone

Apple related? Camming? I would have gone with Core Whore. Or Pie.

I've always wanted to start my own bakery business!! It would be awesome to open the bakery 3 days a week (Thurs and Fri from 10a-5p, and Sat 10a-2p), and work Monday and Tuesday from 7a-3p in an outpatient setting (cardiac, endoscopy, research, or ambulatory surgery, for example). I'd also like to work PRN in a hospital (maybe ICU or OR) to keep up my skills!

Now that would be the life! :)

You do realize that the bakery might be OPEN at 10am, but unless you just plan on hiring minions to do all the work for you, you would actually have to BE there at 3am to start baking all those goodies.

Personally, I don't know any bakers who don't oversee the preparation process-what if you breeze in at 10 and the cookies are all burned and the bread didn't rise??

Full time nursing today is a killer and I don't believe it's going to last much longer in its current practice form for much too longer. The new generation of nurses don't seem as passionately dedicated to all the strife, grief, and sacrifice that exists today (and I think that's GOOD!).

Firefighters do that all the time. They're on 24, off 48, and many have side jobs that have nothing to do with fire fighting.

Seems pretty therapeutic, to me. 👍

They had a sink that had water running to it but no drain. The sink was used to pour out extra milk, rinse utensils, pour out extra espresso, etc., and emptied into a bucket that had to be emptied several times per day.

Dick Portillo opened his first hot dog stand under similar conditions. Look what happened to him lol.
