Hi everyone...
I start Nursing School next week (yay!)...
Can anyone suggest some VERY comfy, supportive, "duty" shoes for my upcoming crazy schedule?
I've heard crocks are wonderful, but I'm not sure if they are "duty shoes" and will be supportive enough for the 8hr clinicals? I'm wondering if I should just stick to a classic New Balance sneaker?
Thanks a lot!

Hey Samantha. Do yourself a favor and invest in a pair of Danskos/Sanitas. They are amazing, heavy duty, comfortable, and long lasting. I highly reccomend!

In my program we're not allowed to wear Crocs because they have the holes in them and it's a safety hazard.
I alternate between a pair of New Balance sneakers and a pair of Nurse Mates slip on sneakers. Both have treated my feet very well.

Danskos will last until you graduate and they give excellent support. But try them out ahead of time because some people hate them with a fiery, burning passion. I had plantar fasciitis and had to upgrade to appallingly expensive shoes (I miss being a Payless girl). The Danskos outrank my $250 MBTs for clinicals.

When I attended clinical rotations in an LVN program 5 years ago, I wore a cheap pair of white leather tennis shoes from Payless. They cost less than $15 and were comfortable.
When I attended clinical rotations in an RN program last year, I wore a cheap pair of white shoes from the local WalMart. They cost about $20 and were comfortable enough to get the job done.
Contrary to popular belief, the real duties do not really start until you are actually working as a licensed nurse. The average clinical shift in school adds up to only 6 hours, on average, of actual "observations" and "duties" after you deduct the lunch break and the post-conference. For this, you do not need an expensive shoe that is top-of-the-line.

You don't need to blow a lot of money on shoes for clinicals. You won't be on your feet for 12 hours with few breaks.

I have RA and I found myself in love with Avia avimotion shoe. A better version of the Sketchers Shape Ups!! These shoes are incrediably comfortable and take the strain off of my lower back and knees!! I can't stand shoes, but since I can't be barefoot duringclinicals, lol, these are the next best thing!!

I have chronic low back ache. I have learned Danskos make my back feel like a million bucks!!! No back ache!!! I do say, they need to be broke in. I wore mine around my house for about a week before clinicals started and that helped a ton.
