In the past, when I know I'm going to be faced with a tougher than normal challenge, I try to prepare and make life a little more convenient ahead of time.
Now that I have been officially accepted into the nursing program, I will be doing a lot preparation in between each semester.
Here are a few things I do before I start my tough semesters:
-Make meals and snacks that require very little to no prep time and freeze them.
-Clean like it's spring
-Give myself a pedicure with a new polish color.
-Get my hair done.
-Wear my kids out by spending tons of time with them.
-Me and my husband go out on a date.
What do you do to make life a little more convenient while in nursing school?
I admit I've been slacking from May to now with getting stuff watched off my DVR, reading fun books, playing on You Tube, watching all my MJ DVDs one last time.
Now that it's August I need to follow your examples and get it in gear before my 1st semester starts on the 30th. What I have been doing is starting to watch You Tube videos on pharmacology and listen to lecture podcasts of pathophysiology--my first 2 classes. I also have a nursing assessment course so I will be starting to watch vids of bed baths, IVs, injections, etc.
There are no clinicals in our first semeter, but I am registered at 3/4 time. Next semester it will be full-time. All this plus a full-time job which I have to keep in order to live--no hubby to help. I'll have no life for the next 16 months so I'm needing to prepare now. Thanks for the tips.
I am turning into an organizing maniac - every drawer, cabinet, closet, and room has gotten an entire overhaul. I figure if everything has a place, come crazy schedule time - my house will be so much easier to pick up and clean.
I'm hoarding crock pot recipes and making meals to freeze in advance for super busy days. I'm stocking up on tons of ziplock baggies and containers and planning easy, fast grocery list/menu plans for school.
I'm buying tons of school supplies so that I don't have to deal with the crazy back to school rush of insanity. I'm also stocking up on comfy school clothes that look nice, but feel like pajamas. If I'm going to be sitting for hours at a time jeans are so out of the question - it will be yoga pants, cute flats and cardigans for me!
I'm doing a lot of yoga and listening to my relaxation cd's to get myself into chill mode.
I have taken this summer off to completely enjoy as it will be the last time I will have a full summer off, because once I start NS in August, I will have one slightly long break between Fall and Spring semester and then it is full tilt until graduation in December of 2011.
This week I will finish unpacking the house and getting everything put away or gone all together. Once I finish the last 2 rooms (breakfast room and living room) I will focus on getting my office set up, organized and operational.
Finish my stock up of school supplies
clean out my closet so that it is easier to grab something and hit the door
Clean and have my truck serviced
spend time with the grandbabies
and as a special treat for myself, I am going to get an 1 1/2 hour massage to relax myself before the fun begins.
I was given the advice to enjoy my summer. I have been out riding my bike like crazy. I'll be hitting a couple of spin classes each week to get a great condensed workout.
I cleaned the "Tornado" room into a peaceful study.
My husband will be doing the cooking- it won't be as good as mine! Last semester cooking became a stress reliever. Love to chop vegetables. Stir fry is always a quick meal. I am not too good with a crock pot, maybe an occasional soup. When pressed for time I don't use recipes just what's in the fridge will work. Recipes are for my leisure time usually. I am also trying to get into the habit of not bringing garbage junk food home because when I am stressed I'll eat it. So lots of healthy things to snack on. Yogurt (I know yuck) works well as a good "to go" food and late night snack.
do you mind if i ask where everyone gets their quick/simple recipes from? (:

Lots of quick, easy and budget-friendly recipes!
get your books and start reading in advance! the first day of class in one 8 weeks the instructor said, "if you haven't started reading the chapters, you will fail!"
i was gonna post this too
i can't emphasize enough how important this is
the biggest thing with nursing school content is the pace is insane for the amount of info they are cramming down your throat
make every effort to get a head start on material for every class- talk to people in the class ahead of you or the instructors and get the syllabus, and pages to start on early
this is key to surviving

I used to make breakfast buritos and PBJ sandwiches wrap them individually and freeze, also would get a healthy snack and some rice cakes and break them into snack size zip locks so that I could grab it all and take with me, with a fruit And some mountain dew and iced tea.
All meals done biweekly, so I had nothing to worry about, pluss I'd read into the books prior to the semester's start
Another thing I used to do was To have all uniforms ready for the week and go with the flow! Typing all my notes and summarizing it all was great help to have notes on the go!
