SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2009 Cohort

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Everybody,

I thought I would make a thread for those of us who will be applying to the SFSU/Canada College BSN program, fall 2009 cohort. Maybe we could share our stats, frustrations, thoughts about the nursing profession, etc.

As for me, I have two prerequisites left to complete. I am taking one right now, and I will take the last one during spring 2009. I anticipate that I will have about a 3.7 GPA in the prerequisite courses.

I have also met two of the supplementary criteria. With as competitive as it is, I know that it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether I get in or not. I'm just hoping for a little luck.

Good luck to all of you.

Has anyone received the orientation packet we are supposed to get in the mail this month?

Afro81, I think the bigger question you need to consider is where you want to be living while in school--Chico is very laid back and much more inexpensive. It's also kind of out in the middle of farm country, so if it's important to you to be in or near a big city center, you may feel a bit isolated. It's by no means a tiny podunk town, however; there's lots to do, especially if you enjoy the outdoors. Have a look at a Google map of the area and figure out driving distances to other places you may want to visit during school.

San Francisco is a fantastic city, with lots of everything--racial and cultural diversity, food food and more food, access to public transit, clubs, museums, proximity to airports, etc. It's also expensive, hard to park, and traffic can be very congested.

I've heard great things about both nursing programs, so it may boil down to whether you prefer to live in a big city or a small city.

We will be getting our orientation packets by the end of this week. That's what the nursing office told me. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

It's about time! :) I am expiring with anticipation, here!

i can't believe we didn't get our orientation packets this week =( hopefully we will get them on monday!

Hi All,

I just got the orientation package via e-mail. I can't wait to meet you all on July 30th @ Sequoia. :yeah:

Is it just me or is the "practice" drug calculations test a little difficult? I didn't learn any of that material previously - I thought that's why we were going into nursing school for. Am I alone?

Hello everyone, long time no chat! I received the orientation packet too via email. There is so much to do, ahhh!

The drug calculation test was a nice little warm up I guess. Those conversion factors from chemistry came in handy. Who would have known? haha.

I can't wait to meet everyone on the 30th.

Hi All,

The orientation package stated that we need to schedule an appointment with Sequoia Hospital Employee Health Services. Does anyone know what # to call? Thanks!

Hi Friscogiants - I am just looking at the drug calc practice sheet and have NO idea what the abbreviations are. How are we supposed to know this before we learn it in class? Did you complete it yet?

Sure haven't completed it yet. My first thought was the same as yours: "Aren't we going to nursing school to learn this?" Luckily, my buddy is a nurse and he told me. Otherwise, you can probably find the info online if you're savvy. Here are a few off the top of my head: prn: per RN a.k.a under nurses discretion. q = "every" like q4hr a.k.a every 4 hours. . . etc, etc.

How would you compare the nursing program at: SFSU- Canada (Satellite) and Cal State East Bay? How would you rate them and why?
