Hello Everybody,
I thought I would make a thread for those of us who will be applying to the SFSU/Canada College BSN program, fall 2009 cohort. Maybe we could share our stats, frustrations, thoughts about the nursing profession, etc.
As for me, I have two prerequisites left to complete. I am taking one right now, and I will take the last one during spring 2009. I anticipate that I will have about a 3.7 GPA in the prerequisite courses.
I have also met two of the supplementary criteria. With as competitive as it is, I know that it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether I get in or not. I'm just hoping for a little luck.
Good luck to all of you.

Hey,
I too am planning on applying to the SFSU/Canada College program. I have a 3.7 GPA in the pre-reqs. and currently work as a medical assistant at a pediatric office. This program seems really tough to get in to! Good Luck! :)

Hi Guys!
I just mailed my application in last week! It is going to be torture to wait until April to find out whether I am accepted. Anyone else mail in their application yet? Have you gotten the email confirmation yet?
I am in my last prereq now, Physio. This has been the worst class; professor-wise that is. I can't even gauge how I am doing because nobody knows how many points are "out there" to get. So frustrating. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and to see if there are any more of us out there who did/will be applying to this program. Fingers crossed!
Hi CAangelindisguise,
Good luck with your application. I hope both of us are accepted. I sent my application in about a month ago, but I haven't received an email confirmation yet. I received a confirmation from SFSU admissions, but not from the school of nursing.
I think my chances of getting in are pretty slim, because I still have two prerequisites left to complete. I'm taking chemistry right now, and I will take physiology next semester. The application instructions stated that you can have one prerequisite in progress during the spring, so I'm hoping that this doesn't hurt me too much.
Good luck!
Hi Torasamu,
I wouldn't worry about the prereqs. You are still within the guidelines to have one in progress, right? Please keep me posted as to when you hear anything back from SFSU. Good luck!!
Well, it looks like the deadline to submit applications has passed. Now we just have to wait until around mid april. It's going to be a long five months.

Hi folks,
I too have tossed my name into the void!
3.9 GPA in prereqs & 3 sup BUT when I looked last year at the boards, there was no rhyme nor reason I could detect..
At any rate GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!!
Hi bernal4eva, welcome to the thread.
I think you have a good chance of being accepted with a 3.9 gpa and 3 supplementary criteria. From what I understand, the decisions are mostly based on numbers, and to a lesser extent the supplementary items; at least that's what somebody at the school told me.
I would like to think that they do a more holistic evaluation, but there isn't a whole lot of information in the application for them to look at; just grades, contact info, etc...

Hi all! I thought it wise to join this forum since I'm hoping to get into their satellite program @ Canada College. I already have a BS, so SFSU wasn't an option. I live & work in SF and hope that I still have a chance of getting in. I hear they prefer their own residents, but I'm totally prepared to move if I have to! Haha... And after reading previous posts from last year's class, I'm starting to worry. I guess it's better to be out of the dark. I know it's very competitive & nursing programs are impacted, but wow... it's even harder if everyone has 4.0s & 2-3 supplements... crazy scared as April nears...
Hi Guys,
Just checking in with everyone to see how we are all holding up. I am hopeful one day and totally not the next - ugh. This waiting is torture...
Hi CAangelindisguise, long time no see.
The waiting is torture for me too, even though I have pretty much came to terms with the fact that I probably will not get in. I am just hoping for a little luck. I am on tract to get an A in my last prerequisite (Physiology), so if I reapply for Fall 2010, my application should be a lot stronger.
Anyhow, good luck. I hope we both get in.

Hi there, cohort! How's everyone holding up during the waiting? I'm starting to chew my nails a bit. I have a 3.7 in my pre-reqs, and met one of the supplemental criteria; if I need to re-apply next semester, I'll have met all three. (Doing volunteer work at a hospital and polishing up my Spanish.)
Anyone know for sure what the notification period is? I've convinced myself that they might start as early as March, so I'm totally jumpy.
