SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2009 Cohort

Published

Hello Everybody,

I thought I would make a thread for those of us who will be applying to the SFSU/Canada College BSN program, fall 2009 cohort. Maybe we could share our stats, frustrations, thoughts about the nursing profession, etc.

As for me, I have two prerequisites left to complete. I am taking one right now, and I will take the last one during spring 2009. I anticipate that I will have about a 3.7 GPA in the prerequisite courses.

I have also met two of the supplementary criteria. With as competitive as it is, I know that it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether I get in or not. I'm just hoping for a little luck.

Good luck to all of you.

I'm a hopeful applicant too, but worried that they say they don't call if any transcripts haven't arrived.

Good question: Does anyone know when they will notify us?

You can log in to check the status of your application to make sure they have everything they need. I checked back in January and thank goodness I did! My school had sent my transcripts without my final grades! Looking back at the threads from last year's applicants, they received their letters on April 16. Four weeks from tomorrow... ack!!

Only a few more weeks to go. I don't know how much longer I can continue waiting.

Just curious, did anyone here receive a Financial Aid offer from SF State? I recently received one via email. I don't know if they send offers to everyone, or to only those who are being accepted. I hope its the latter, hehehe.

Anyhow, good luck guys; were almost there.

Torasamu,

I too received a fin aid offer, but I also got one from another school that I think I won't get into. So, who knows? I think SFSU will send notices in Mid-April and hopefully earlier for acceptances. I called the office and the receptionist guessed the notice period would be the same as the regular BSN students...mid April. I had to stop drinking coffee for a week to calm my nerves while waiting.

Hope we all get in!

Yeah, I got one too...who knows? I heard they will change the status of your application online before they mail out letters - I have been stalking the sfsu website LOL! I wish I had a crystal ball...

I got a Financial Aid letter a few days ago also. I think they send them to everyone but I'm not sure.

hi everybody. i am a prospective student planning on transfering to sfsu, my first choice and excited. i am going to be applying to the nursing program in the fall of 2009. are there any advise that you want to tell me i should be doing before i apply? i know this is early but i figured, the earlier, the better

Hi Solidus_Snake, welcome to the thread.

The only advise I could give you is to get the best best grades possible, and do as much of the supplementary stuff as you can. It's pretty straight forward. Carrying a good luck charm while you mail in your application won't hurt either.

Good luck. I'll probably be applying during the next cycle with you.

oh no! that means i have competition :crying2:

how competitive are you? this is going to be my first time applying next semester fall of 09.

well i hope you get in the canada campus this years, other wise i'd have to apply with you.

good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about me. I'm not that competitive. My GPA is only about 3.7, which I from I've heard is low for this program. I'll be lucky if I get in. I'm hoping that my experience (military medic overseas, etc...) will give me a little boost.

Anyhow, thanks for the luck; I need all I can get.

when applying and we have a prereq course(s) in progress, we only include the GPA from the current finished prereqs right? and that's the GPA that they'll see and probably use then?

As far as I know, they will consider the grades from the courses that are in progress during the Fall semester; the same semester that you send in your application. After you send in your transcripts, they will be entered into the university wide system, which the School of Nursing admissions committee will access while reviewing your application.
