Does this problem exist? Have you encountered such problems in your facility? Have you heard of such reports? Just was wondering if there has been any studies done on this subject.

It happens, though hopefully very rarely. Haven't hearad of any studies.
We had a male aid provide "services" for a male patient. Weeks later, after discharge, when the patient got angry at the aide he reported the aid. Not sure where it lead, but the police escorted him off the property one night. I'm leaving out a lot of details for privacy's sake.

I've encountered it mostly in psych facilities. Haven't seen any formal studies.

I've known a couple of nurses over the years who got involved with patients. In one case, they had an out-in-the-open relationship. His parents (and I know this because he was my cousin) weren't thrilled about the relationship, but didn't oppose it either. He had luekemia and died before he was 20, the nurse was about 5 - 8 years older.
More commonly, I've known nurses who got involved with the patient's family members. It's one thing if everyone involved is single, but quite another when they're not. And in most of these cases, at least in the cases I know of, one of the parties is not. I've known a couple of male nurses who admit that "when I was young" they slept with the wives of patients, providing a service that the patient couldn't provide. And one woman I worked with years ago told me that she met her husband when she was a home health nurse, taking care of his first wife. She and the husband had an affair while she was his wife's nurse, which I thought was incredibly inappropriate.
I think one needs to be mindful of how their behavior is going to look to others such as their employer, the board of nursing, their spouse or their partner's spouse. And if they're unafraid of how it would look to any of those concerned parties, it's probably none of MY business.

Considering the majority of our patient load are 80 yrs old, MRSA and VRE +, and GI bleeds, this hasn't been a problem for us.

Sadly yes, I graduated with an individual now in prison. This ER nurse reported pain symptoms to the ER doc who in tern ordered a narc for the pain. The nurse used the narc to sedate the patient then sexually molest her. Happened repeatedly with many patients.
Then at the same hospital the night shift was making Mediaographic films in the peidatric unit. No there were no kids involved in the fims it was all adult consenting staff. EWWWW.
The second one was kept under wraps at the hospital, as no one had reported it to the police.
The molestation in the ERone got out as one patient reported it to the police.
The reason no one came forward with the molestation earlier is thier memory was foggy and they were uncertain that it may have been something they drempt.

You've all given back rubs. We had a male nursing tech who specialized in front rubs. Not one patient reported him! The HN caught him because of all the OT he was reporting. Funny what a drawn curtain van hide.

About 10 years ago a male LPN had a lot of stories circulated about him. Most of it involved female staff people, including a 17 year old aide, but there were a couple of stories about a female patient who was raped and that same LPN was the one they blamed. He was a scum bag, so I guess people wanted to believe it of him, regardless of truth....
