Does this problem exist? Have you encountered such problems in your facility? Have you heard of such reports? Just was wondering if there has been any studies done on this subject.
I am an RN who met my husband 10 years ago while he was hospitalized as a surgical pt. We were both single, consenting adults and did not begin our relationship until he was no longer in my care. He is truly the love of my life and I have never regretted my decision to enter into a relationship with him. I'm sure some people pass judgement on our unconventional meeting (esp. other nurses). But, overall people react well when we share our story of how we met. You'd be surprised how many people offer stories of people they know who have had similar successful relationships
Originally posted by SoldiersnurseAt a LTC facility I worked at about 4 years ago, we had a janitor who was molesting the corpses in the "body freezer". They found out when a nurse and an aid were putting another body into the freezer and caught him "in the act". SO DISGUSTING!
Someone should "accidently" lock the door on him.

She was noted to be overly familiar with them, and talked of her 'crushes' on patients, but we never knew for sure what went on behind curtains til one happily married patient complained to me personally that she had made propositions and was touching him innappropriately.
Worked with a nurse like that, who thought for some reason that we really wanted to just WHAT specifically she couldn't get enough of on a black man. Luckily the DON heard her (and fired her) before i said "shut the ***k up".
That's extremely sad though, the pts. TRUST nurses, and here this person that you RELY on coming and and being inappropriate.
Heaven help the person to get ahold of my spouse (that position's still open BTW) in a healthcare setting in the wrong manner.
Now i did go out on a date with a patient. (DEFINATELY something i won't make a habit of) I noticed he was a good looking man, but i was professional, etc. and NOTHING was said or done while he was a pt, nor did he do or say anything. After he was discharged he called the floor a week later and asked to meet me in the cafeteria on my break, which i did (there were several people in there, so i was ok) where he asked me out on a date. Manners, the lost art .
I currently work in the lab and we had an instance one night running a urine specimen on an 80 year old lady from a nursing home. The lady was brought in from the nursing home and being seen in the ER. When her urine was put under the microscope she had sperm in it. How does an 80 year old lady from a nursing home get sperm in her urine? We had hoped that the ER nurse mislabeled the urine by accident, although she says that was not the case. I do know that it was reported, but have no clue what ever came of it. Very, Very sad.

One of two things
1) the first obvious, sad thought
2) there were SEVERAL times i accidently walked in on 2 sound-minded consenting adults going at it in the bathroom, at 85. I hope to have that much energy at that age.

Nothing inappropriate here. Glad to hear your positive story. :)

Every now and then a scumbag sneaks through a nursing program and makes us all look bad. My male coworkers get a bad rap...seems there's always a needy psych female on the unit that makes accusations. Of course we need to report it and let someone investigate. The guys need to be verrry careful nowadays; they make easy targets.
I've actually seen more along the lines of boundary crossing...and more with female nurses. Innappropriate over-involvement, post discharge followup and affairs, etc. I suspect my BON considers this misconduct. I've known a few nurses who were quite blatant about their affairs with patients.

Believe it or not, administration laughed it off.... 'men don't get sexually harassed' he said...hmmm.
